James “Bud” Martin departed this life to be with his God and Savior on Thursday morning, Feb. 7, at the home he shares with his very loved wife, Rachel Martin, in Coffeyville.

 

Bud was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Tulsa, to James E. and Maude (Jones) Martin. He moved with his family to Coffeyville later that year. Bud attended local schools and in 1945 he was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany, where he served as a military policeman. He enlisted in 1947 and was stationed in Germany again, this time serving as a highway patrolman. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked at Ludowisi Roof and Tile and Continental Can before beginning work at Farmland in 1953. He retired from Farmland in 1989 after working there thirty-six years.

 

Bud and Rachel (Graves) married May 21, 1950 in Coffeyville, where they lived their entire married lives. Bud considered Rachel the girl of his dreams, and she always felt blessed to be married to such a good man.

 

Bud was an active member of First Assembly of God where he held various offices, including sixty-plus years as deacon.

 

He was a member of the Cooperative Credit Union Board of Directors for twenty-two years. He was also involved with the Pioneer Chapter of the Red Cross and worked several disasters in building and repair. 

 

Bud is survived by his wife, Rachel Martin, of the home; his children: Sheila Lander and her husband Don of Nixa, MO; Don Martin and his wife Debbie of Coffeyville; his brother Leslie Martin of Coffeyville; grandchildren, Nathan Lander, Matt Lander, Angi Womeldorff, Amber Parker, Ashley Woods, Aaron Martin, Micah Martin, and Hannah Martin; step-grandchildren, Jenni Ploeger and Amber Clark; eight great-grandchildren; Mary Eden; nieces and nephews, and daughter-in-law Lori Martin. He was preceded in death by his son, Jim Martin; his parents, three sisters, and an infant brother.

 

Bud was a gentle and faithful husband and a devoted, loving father who raised his children in the house of the Lord, teaching them by his example how to love and serve God.

 

Friends may call on Friday, Feb 15^th, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The will greet friends on Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the First Assembly of God Church, Coffeyville.

 

Services are 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, also at First Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Ft. Riley, KS, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20.
