Head coach Criss Davis and his Bullpups shut out an opponent for the fourth time this season as Caney Valley took down rival Cherryvale 46-0 on Homecoming night in Week 6.
Jace Buckley got the scoring started on the Bullpups’ third play from scrimmage, finding a seam on the left side of the offensive line and bursting into the end zone for a 68-yard rushing touchdown.
Layne Denny then found a streaking Traxcyn Garton down the right sideline for a 58-yard touchdown pass, putting Caney Valley in the driver’s seat with a 16-0 lead after the first quarter.
Buckley added two more rushing touchdowns to finish with three on the night in another dominant performance on the ground, as Caney Valley entered halftime ahead 32-0.
The Bullpups’ defense once again made life difficult for the opposing offense, recording an interception and stopping the Chargers on fourth down twice to preserve the shutout. Garton and Boone White added two more rushing scores in the third quarter.
With a running clock for the final 20 minutes, Davis put in a slew of underclassmen, who all gained valuable playing time. Caney Valley came away with another 40-plus-point win before the players celebrated Homecoming night.
The Bullpups will move on to face Riverton on the road next week, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff set for 7 on US 98.
