No. 19 Kansas Prepares for BYU After Narrow Win

Category: Local Sports

The Kansas women’s soccer team edged Iowa State 1-0 last Friday with a late goal, improving to 11-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in Big 12 play.

Sophomore Marit McLaughlin scored in the final five minutes, finishing off an assist from fifth-year senior Livvy Moore to give the Jayhawks the win over the Cyclones.

Head coach Nate Lie says Iowa State came in with a strong game plan, and a win like this is a must-have if the Jayhawks want to continue competing for a Big 12 title.

Lie also says Kansas has been dominating the second half of games, praising his team’s resilience, urgency and composure in the most intense moments. However, he’d like to see the Jayhawks approach the first 45 minutes with the same intensity they bring to the final 45.

The 19th-ranked Jayhawks will return to Rock Chalk Park this Thursday, as the BYU Cougars come to town looking to hand Kansas its first home loss of the season.
