Cherryvale Improves to 4-3 Ahead of Senior Night

Category: Local Sports

The Cherryvale Chargers and head coach Harry Hester downed the Humboldt Cubs 34-14 in a district matchup last Friday, improving to 4-3 on the season.

Cherryvale got back in the win column after two straight losses to tough opponents. After falling behind early on a kickoff return touchdown, the Chargers responded by outscoring the Cubs 28-8 the rest of the way.

Hester says several players stepped up in the face of injuries, including three freshmen offensive linemen who did a great job opening holes for Wyatt Duncan, who rushed for more than 100 yards, and giving quarterback Remington John time to work as he threw for a touchdown.

The Chargers will move on to face Riverton at home in their regular-season finale, and Hester says the Rams have a senior-heavy roster with a talented running back and quarterback combination. However, Cherryvale will be ready for the challenge on Senior Night.

Cherryvale lost both meetings with Riverton last year, falling 37-27 and 26-0. The Chargers will look to improve to 5-3 and keep the Rams below .500 in an important district clash.
