No. 17 Kansas Volleyball Carries Momentum Into Sunflower Showdown

Categories: Local Sports

The No. 17 Kansas Jayhawks women’s volleyball team is entering the final stretch of Big 12 play with momentum after rallying for a reverse-sweep victory over No. 24 Baylor on Sunday.

Kansas dropped the first two sets before winning the next three to complete the comeback against the Bears. The Jayhawks are now 8-2 over their last 10 matches, with one of their only two losses over the past seven weeks coming against Arizona State.

Head coach Matt Ulmer says his team reverted to some bad habits in that match but still put together a strong performance despite falling in five sets to the Sun Devils.

During Kansas’ recent stretch of strong play, the Jayhawks set a program record with 27 consecutive sets won. They currently sit third in the Big 12 standings with a 7-2 conference record, behind Arizona State and BYU. Ulmer says the conference is deep and features plenty of parity across the board.

The Jayhawks’ next match is Friday against K-State at Allen Fieldhouse, with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m. Kansas will look to pick up its 15th win of the season.
