The Oswego Indians advanced to the regional round of the 8-Man Division I playoffs with a 76-28 win over Cedar Vale/Dexter on Friday, continuing their postseason run under head coach Matt Fowler.
The Indians and Spartans met last year in a 174-point shootout, with Cedar Vale/Dexter coming away with an 88-86 victory. Friday night’s matchup started much the same way, as the teams combined for 68 points in the opening 12 minutes, however, Oswego shut out the Spartans the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Coming into the matchup, Fowler says it was easy for his team to stay focused, considering how last year’s game ended. He says the message to his players was to remember that the game in front of them was the last one guaranteed on their schedule.
Fowler also says the Indians had to be wary of Cedar Vale/Dexter quarterback Cooper Criss, who has great touch as a passer. Criss finished Friday’s game with 322 passing yards and four touchdown passes.
The Indians will face Washington County this Friday in the regional round. The 6-3 Tigers are coming off a 52-0 win over Cair Paravel.
