Erie's Season Ends With First-Round Loss to South Sumner

Categories: Local Sports

The Erie Red Devils saw their season come to an end Friday with a 52-0 loss to South Sumner in the first round of the 8-Man playoffs under head coach David Pitts.

The Red Devils were looking to upset the higher-seeded Outlaws after falling to them earlier in the season, 66-12, however, South Sumner’s defense shut out Erie to secure the victory.

Pitts says he challenged his team to compete against one of the top teams in 8-Man football. He liked how the Red Devils moved the ball down the field, but Erie was unable to convert when it reached South Sumner territory.

Through nine games in a new format, Pitts says he saw his players continue to adapt to the details and techniques of the game, with that progress showing up in their play as the season went on.

The Red Devils finish the year with a 4-5 record after going .500 during the regular season. We’ll have a season wrap-up on Erie next week.
