The St. Paul Indians closed out their season on a high note, taking down the Fairfield Falcons 50-30 last Thursday to earn their first win of the year under head coach Keith Wiatrak.
Trailing 30-20 at halftime, the Indians’ defense stepped up over the final 24 minutes, keeping the Falcons scoreless the rest of the way. Meanwhile, the offense took control in the fourth quarter to secure the 20-point victory.
Wiatrak says a halftime conversation and a third-quarter interception helped spark the turnaround, as the Indians found their confidence in the second half.
Wiatrak also says his team’s fight and never-give-up attitude made this group special, especially after two consecutive seasons in which significant injuries impacted the team’s performance on the field.
The Indians finish the year at 1-8 and will look to build on a large group of returning underclassmen next season, led by a handful of juniors and seniors.
