Sherry Perkins

Sherry Perkins, age 64, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. 

 

Sherry was born on September 7, 1957, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Doyle and Katherine (Winkler) Taylor.  She grew up in Coffeyville where she attended Holy Name Catholic School and Field Kindley Memorial High School where she earned her high school diploma.  She furthered her education by taking some college courses as well. 

 

On August 7, 1976, Sherry was united in marriage to the love of her life, Michael “Mike” J. Perkins at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville.  The couple made their home in Coffeyville and South Coffeyville, Oklahoma where they raised their two children, Tara and Heath.  In addition to taking care of the home and kids, Sherry was a hard worker.  She spent many years working in upholstery for Cessna Aircraft and Textron Industries. 

 

Sherry was a lifelong member of Holy Name Catholic Church; she was a member of the Holy Name Altar Society and the VFW Auxiliary.  She enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, creating leaded glass art, camping, fishing, going on cruises, taking trips to Branson, Missouri with her grandchildren and spending all the time she could surrounded by her family and close friends.  Sherry had a heart of gold and anyone who spent time around her fell in love with her.  She had an infectious smile that would light up a room.  She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

 

Surviving to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Mike Perkins of the home; children, Tara Witwer and husband, Mike of Dearing, Kansas, Heath Perkins and wife, Kiesha of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and one grandchild on the way; her mother, Katherine “Kathy” Taylor of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; sisters, Tammy Thompson and husband, Roger of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Penny Beecher and husband, Bradley of Rogers, Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.  Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Doyle Taylor. 

 

A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. 

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 2nd at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father James Schibi officiating.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville. 

 

Friends may call on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions can be made in Sherry’s memory to Holy Name Catholic Church or to Holy Name Catholic School; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
