Doyle Clayton Gorby

Doyle Clayton Gorby, 94, of Peru, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Sedan City Hospital in Sedan, Kansas

Doyle was born June 1, 1928, to Nellie and Jess Gorby just two miles west of Peru, Kansas on his family farm.  At the age of 10, he worked the family farm with his brothers John and Glenn using a team of horses, then later a Farmall Regular tractor.  Doyle was a longtime member of the tractor club in Havana, Kansas.  He took pride in his work at the farm and also worked at Denman Oil Company in Sedan, Kansas for 45 years.

He bought a 1947 John Deere B in 1949.  He was still working on the farm till the early 50’s when he med the love of his life Wilba.  Doyle married Wilba Gordon on August 3rd 1952, and had two children Gary Gorby of and Beverly Hoffine both of Caney, Kansas.  In 1960 they lost their home in a fire and moved to Peru, but still had the farm and cattle.  He retired from farming in 2010 when they sold the farm and cattle.  Doyle spent his time on the tractor or at the tractor club enjoying the company of those around him.  He was happy doing small jobs around his home with his wife Wilba.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Wilba, father, Jess, mother, Nellie.  Along with his three brothers, John, Glenn and Neil, three sisters, Ethel, Edith, and Melba, several uncles, aunts, cousins, and grandchildren.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his two children, Gary Gorby and wife, Julie and Beverly Huffine all of Caney, Kansas, ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Following Doyle's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Coffeyville, Kansas. 

A Memorial Service celebrating Doyle’s life will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the God's Lighthouse of Prayer Church in Peru, Kansas.  Frank Mundy will be officiating the service.  Inurnment will follow at the Peru Cemetery.  Lunch will be served immediately following the graveside service at the church.

The family suggests memorials in Doyle’s memory to the Caney Valley Antique Tractors in Havana, Kansas or God’s Lighthouse of Prayer in Peru, Kansas; contributions my be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
