Fredonia Native Wins NCAA Tournament Game

A Fredonia native is celebrating her first NCAA Tournament win as a Divison I head coach.

Alaura Sharp and Presbyterian defeated Sacred Heart, 49-42, in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament, the first tournament win in school history. Sharp was born and raised in Fredonia, and played two years of college ball at Fort Scott.

She says this win means a lot for the program.

Sharp's coaching career has seen numerous stops, spending a year at Lamar CC, before four seasons as head coach at Garden City CC, and time as assistant coach at both Southern Mississippi and Lousiana Tech. She is in her fifth season as head coach at Presbyterian.

She says her mindset is to create experiences you'll remember.

Sharp and the Blue Hose will take on the top-seed South Carolina Gamecocks tomorrow in Albany, New York.
