A Red Raven track and field star has announced his commitment to a Division 1 program to continue his career.

Sophomore Trevor Gunzell has signed a national letter of intent with the University of Alabama, continuing his career in one of the most prestigious athletic conferences in the country.

He says Alabama felt like the right fit from the start.

Gunzell holds school records in both outdoor shot put and discus. He says those events are similar to prepare for.

Like many athletes, Gunzell has grown in his two years of junior college. He says relationships have improved as he's gotten comfortable.

Since 2007, Coffeyville Track and Field has now helped produce 39 national champions, 552 All-Americans, six Olympic medals, and a World Record.

The Kansas City Royals make their first major league signing of the offseason.

Kansas City agreed to a one-year deal with utility player Garrett Hampson, worth $2 million. Hampson has played six seasons in the major leagues, spending his first five in Colorado before last season with the Miami Marlins.

Hampson is one of the MLB's fastest players, in the 96th percentile for sprint speed. He says the organization's philosophy made this a perfect fit.

Positional versatility is another trait of Hampson, spending time at second base, third base, and all three outfield spots. Royals General Manager JJ Picollo says the team valued that versatility greatly.

Hampson will see time at second, third, and center field for the Royals in 2024.

A frustrating night in Nellis Hall saw winnable games slip away, resulting in a pair of losses against the Butler Grizzlies.

The Lady Ravens drop their first home game of the season 68-50. Freddie Wallace led all scorers with 23 points, while Bailey Layman led the Ravens with 12. Karys Washington had another double-double, posting 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Head coach Tony Turner says his team wasn't fully prepared for Butler's suffocating defense.

Jay Herkelman's team got off to a fast start, leading by 11 early in the second game of the doubleheader. But Butler would show their resilience, battling back and sneaking out a 56-51 road win.

The Butler Grizzlies, recently tabbed as the #3 team in the nation, bring an 8-0 record to Nellis Hall for a Wednesday night matchup with the 8-1 Lady Ravens.

Each of these teams have championship expectations, dating back to summer workouts. Head coach Tony Turner says this is a matchup everyone has been waiting for.

A Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver has pending felony charges dropped following last month's arrest.

Justyn Ross is no longer facing criminal charges, after the Johnson County District Attorney's Office approved the case for diversion.

Ross was arrested on October 23rd, and was facing misdemeanor domestic battery and felony criminal damage charges, stemming from a dispute with his girlfriend. Ross would break several items in the apartment, but it was found that every item damaged was Ross' personal items.

The talented wide receiver is currently on the Commissioner's Exempt List, meaning he is unable to practice or play. It is not known when he'll rejoin the Chiefs.

It's the dawn of a new era for Kansas State football, with a change at the quarterback position.

Senior Will Howard will enter the transfer portal, following four seasons as the Wildcat signal caller. Howard will be eligible to play elsewhere immediately as a graduate transfer.

Howard saw playing time in all four seasons in Manhattan, filling in for injured quarterbacks Skylar Thompson and Adrian Martinez, before earning the full-time starting job as a junior.

From Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Howard has carved a legacy in Wildcat history, leading the program in career touchdown passes, and leading KSU to the Big 12 Championship last season.

Howard says he will always have fond memories of Manhattan.

True freshman and Maize high school product Avery Johnson has long been anticipated as the KSU quarterback of the future, and now the former four-star recruit will begin his time as QB1 in Manhattan.

Different players have stepped up at different times for Tony Turner this season, and that trend continued in a hard-fought road win over Cowley.

The game was back and forth the whole way, tied after the first quarter, the Ravens up seven at half, and Cowley up one after the third quarter. But the veteran Ravens made enough plays late, and escaped with a 66-60 win over the Tigers.

Tetona Woods-Blackowl was the star of the show, posting 18 points with eight rebounds and three assists, with 10 points in the first quarter. Head coach Tony Turner says she was dialed in all afternoon.

Ivy Fox had 13 points, and freshman Karys Washington made nine clutch free throws in the fourth quarter.

The newest group of state champions have been crowned following a weekend of championship games across the state.

Gardner-Edgerton wins the first state title in school history, claiming the 6A championship in a 22-19 win over Derby.

The Mill Valley Jaguars continue their run of dominance, winning the 5A championship 62-37 over Kapuan Mt. Carmel. It is the Jaguars' fifth consecutive state title and seventh in the last nine years.

St. Thomas Aquinas is 4A state champions for the second time, with a convincing 35-7 win over Andover Central.

Cheney completes the best season in school history, winning the 3A championship 34-7 over Topeka Hayden. The Cardinals also defeated Andale twice during their championship run.

Nemaha Central wins their second straight 2A championship 28-14 over Hoisington, while Conway Springs wins their 1A eighth championship in a 35-6 victory over Jefferson County North.

In 8-man, the Lyndon Tigers win their first state championship, while Axtell wins their third consecutive title. Cheylin wins the first 6-man championship in school history.

For the first time in nearly a month, the Kansas City Chiefs looked like a better team in the second half.

Kansas City outscored the Las Vegas Raiders 17-3 after the half, and rolled to a 31-17 road victory to improve to 8-3 on the season.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes says the team went back to the basics this week.

Mahomes was efficient all afternoon, only throwing seven incompletions with a pair of touchdown passes to Rashee Rice and Justin Watson. Running back Isaiah Pacheco also scored two touchdowns on the ground.

Tight end Travis Kelce reached 11,000 career receiving yards in the win, becoming the first Chiefs player to ever reach that mark. Kelce is the fastest tight end to 11k yards in NFL history (154 games) and the 17th fastest player ever to reach that mark.

The Chiefs are 8-3 and a half game behind Baltimore for the top seed in the AFC. Kansas City heads to Lambeau field this week for a date with the Green Bay Packers.

Numerous state championship games are being started earlier with the anticipated winter storm arriving this weekend.

The KSHSAA has moved start times for five different championship sites. The 3A state championship in Hutchinson, 2A championship in Salina, 1A state championship in Hays, and 6M championship in Dodge City will all kick off at noon tomorrow afternoon.

The two 8M championships will both be played in Newton, with the D1 kick at 10:30 a.m. and the D2 kick at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.

The 6A state championship in Emporia, 5A state championship in Pittsburg, and 4A championship in Topeka all remain unchanged and will kickoff at 1 p.m. tomorrow.

Snow is anticipated to get heavier as the day progresses across much of the state, and the change in kick times will allow teams and fans to drive home earlier and avoid the most severe portion of the storm.

The Kansas Jayhawks conclude the 2023 regular season this weekend with a trip to Southern Ohio to battle the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Thanksgiving has reason to be a little more special for a young Cowboys cornerback.

Second-year corner DaRon Bland returned a Sam Howell interception for a touchdown in a 45-10 win over the Washington Commanders, his fifth pick-six of the season.

The latest interception for Bland, his seventh of the season, breaks a tie with Eric Allen, Jim Kearney, and Ken Houston for most interception return touchdowns in a single season.

Bland was a fifth-round pick out of Fresno State in 2022, and has now emerged as a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year in the NFL.

The architect behind Kansas State athletics will be staying in Manhattan for the remainder of the decade.

Athletic Director Gene Taylor has agreed to an extension through the end of the 2029-30 athletic season.

Taylor is responsible for the hirings of both football coach Chris Klieman, who led the Wildcats to a Big 12 championship last season, and men's basketball coach Jerome Tang, who led KSU to the Elite Eight in his first season.

Additionally, Wildcat volleyball has defeated numerous top-10 teams this season, and women's basketball just upset a top-5 team for the second consecutive season.

Taylor has also raised millions in fundraising to support renovations to Bill Snyder Football Stadium, a practice facility for the football program, a new arena for volleyball, and a training center for Olympic programs.

There were mixed feelings at Nellis Hall following a doubleheader split between the Ravens and Cloud County.

The Lady Ravens opened up a 14-point halftime lead following a 22-3 run to end the half. The Thunderbirds would storm back in the second half, getting as close as two points, but the Ravens would hang on for a 74-63 win in Game 1.

Head coach Tony Turner says his team did a nice job of staying composed.

Kyleigh Ortiz led the team with 22 points, while Jae'Mya Lyons played her first game at CCC, contributing four points, seven rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Turner says she will be a key piece for this team.

The men struggled against the nation's top scoring defense in Game 2, falling 63-43. CCC shot just 21% from the field, and only made 10 shots as a team on the night.

It did not take long for Coffeyville to find the next leader of the football program, following the retirement of Jeff Leiker.

Defensive coordinator Nick Dobler has been named the 22nd coach in Coffeyville Red Raven history, following the past four seasons as coordinator. Dobler has coached multiple nationally recognized defenses, as well as having eight All-KJCCC linebackers in four seasons.

Dobler also spent eight seasons as defensive coordinator at Kilgore Junior College in Texas, winning two region championships and participating in four bowl games.

Coach Dobler was a two-time All-KJCCC linebacker himself at Independence in 2006 and 2007, and looks to continue the tradition of success and national prominence as the new Red Raven head football coach.

The Chiefs second half offense has officially become an issue, being held scoreless after half for the third straight game in a 21-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kansas City jumped out to a 17-7 lead with a pair of touchdown passes from Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce and Justin Watson. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts scored a pair of second half rushing touchdowns to propel the Eagles to a redemption victory, after dropping the Super Bowl to the Chiefs in February.

The Chiefs are averaging just 5.3 points in the second half this season, worst in the NFL. Kansas City had an opportunity to take the lead late, but wide receiver Marques Valdez-Scantling dropped the deep ball.

Numerous Red Raven soccer players have been named to the All-KJCCC team, putting a bow on another successful fall season for CCC.

Four Lady Ravens and six players from the men's team received honors for the 2023 season.

On the women's side, sophomore Thayline Texeiria is named first team as a midfielder, while sophomores Veronica Calixto, Emelly Padiilha, and Lucy Staines are are honorable mention.

For the men's team, sophomore Daisuke Shinko has been named first team defender, while sophomores Tristan Skerritt, Paulo Diaz, Mario De La Fuente, Ayato Kaneko, and Manuel Nunez are all named to the second team.

It's a battle of NFL goliaths as the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch.

The Eagles are 8-1 on the season, while the Chiefs are 7-2 coming off their bye week.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes says the Eagles are a similar team to last year, and this will be a challenge for the team.

Will Howard threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns, and running back DJ Giddens had 102 rushing yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats are 8-3 and will play Iowa State this week, while the Jayhawks stumble to 7-4 and travel to Cincinnati.

It was a night to remember in Iowa City for the Kansas State Lady Wildcats.

KSU beat a top-5 Iowa team for the second consecutive season, winning 65-58 on the road Thursday night.

The game was close throughout, including a tie game with just over one minute remaining. The Lady Wildcats ended the game on a 7-0 run.

Ayoka Lee led KSU with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Kansas State also defeated Iowa last season 84-83.

Kansas Jayhawk fans now know who will be the starting quarterback in 2024.

Jalon Daniels has had injury frustration, missing six straight games and seven total this season due to a lingering back issue. Daniels was the preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and led the Jayhawks to a bowl game for the first time since 2007 last year.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Daniels staying in Lawrence for his senior season, with many outside sources anticipating a potential move in the transfer portal. Daniels took to social media, however, to make a point that isn't the case.

Daniels is widely considered one of the most talented signal callers in the nation when healthy and on the field.

A star player from last season's Kansas State basketball team makes his NBA debut.

Point guard Markquis Nowell played four minutes for the Toronto Raptors against the Milwaukee Bucks, scoring two points, as well as collecting two rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Nowell is currently on a two-way contract with the Raptors, splitting time between Toronto and the G-League affiliate 905 Raptors. He has averaged 16.3 points and 10 assists per game in the G-League thus far.

Nowell will turn 24 years old next month, and will look to continue earning a role in the top basketball league in the world.

A dozen Red Raven football players have been named all-conference following the 2023 season.

The Jayhawk conference revealed the major season awards, with Hutchinson coach Drew Dallas named coach of the year, Hutch quarterback Samari Collier and Highland wide receiver Benson Prosper named co-offensive players of the year, and Hutch defensive end Daniel Brown named defensive player of the year.

Running back Omiri Wiggins, wide receiver Joseph Young, offensive lineman Rod Brown, and defensive back Jabari Tiller are the four Ravens named 2nd-Team all-conference.

Offensive tackle Chayce Chadwick, offensive guard Michael Adams, defensive tackle Caden Ross, defensive end Griffin Lampton, linebacker Seidrion Langston, safety Jabari Sheppard, punter Cade Dowd, and kicker Conner Gellender are all named honorable mention.

Coffeyville Community College will be looking for a new head football coach.

Head football coach Jeff Leiker has announced his intention to step down as coach, and transition to a full-time athletic director role.

Leiker has been with the Red Ravens for 22 years, serving as the football coach from 2001-2007, as well as 2020-2023, compiling a career record of 76-40 at CCC. He has also spent time as head coach at Fort Hays State and Garden City Community College.

CCC qualified for six straight bowl games from 2001-2006, and finished Top 5 in the country in 2004 and 2022.

Coach Leiker was inducted into the NJCAA Football Hall of Fame in 2010, and also the CCC Lettermen's Hall of Fame.

CCC will begin immediately searching for a new head football coach, to continue building on the foundation and culture built by Coach Leiker.

Kansas football has had tough luck with injuries at the quarterback position in 2023, but it seems that the Jayhawks finally got good news on the injury front.

Senior quarterback Jason Bean is working towards playing against Kansas State in the Sunflower Showdown on Saturday. Bean has been the KU starting quarterback for six consecutive weeks following the injury to Jalon Daniels.

Bean exited the loss to Texas Tech in the second quarter with a head injury. Head coach Lance Leipold says, however, that he is encouraged by the progress he has made.

The Kansas quarterback returned to practice yesterday, and will be a game time decision on Saturday. Freshman walk-on Cole Ballard, the son of Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard, would make his first career start if Bean can't go.

It was a tough final night of non-conference play for the Red Ravens, dropping a doubleheader against NEO in Miami.

The Lady Ravens struggled mightily in the first half, trailing by double digits most of the game, including being down 27 late in the third quarter. CCC would end the game on a 44-20 run, nearly pulling off an improbable comeback, but falling just short in a 69-66 defeat.

Both Karys Washington and Natayla Jones played great minutes for Turner, while Kyleigh Ortiz and Bailey Layman had crucial scores late. The Lady Ravens are 5-1 entering conference play.

The men didn't fare much better, falling to NEO for the second consecutive game, in a 77-59 loss. It was a sloppy display for a young team in their first road game, with missed free throws, turnovers, and foul trouble looming large. Both Izek Jackson and CJ Smith fouled out in the second half.

Cris Carroll had 10 points for the Ravens, while Jahni Summers and Boubacar Keita were both strong in the second half.

Coffeyville opens conference play on Saturday afternoon against the Pratt Beavers.

Kansas State may be one step closer to getting a key member of the team back on the court.

Senior forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin has applied for a diversion program weeks after his arrest in a Manhattan bar on charges of disorderly conduct and fighting.

Head coach Jerome Tang has said on numerous occasions that Tomlin is suspended indefinitely and would only be considered for reinstatement after all legal issues are resolved. If the diversion program application is approved, it could be the first step in reaching a legal conclusion.

Tomlin averaged 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in his first year at KSU last season, and was expected to be a key piece this season, being the best returner from last year’s Elite Eight team. Tomlin will have a conference regarding his application before the end of the week.

Non-conference play wraps up tonight for Red Raven basketball, with a doubleheader againt the NEO Norsemen in Miami.

The Lady Ravens are looking to finish the non-conference 6-0, and sweep NEO in a two game home-and-home series. Head coach Tony Turner says he and NEO coach Jim Rowland have a great relationship that begins off the court.

The men's team will be looking for revenge following an overtime loss to NEO last week. Head coach Jay Herkelman says they will be looking to attack the zone more tonight.

The Kansas Jayhawks pick up their first statement win of the season, rallying to defeat Kentucky 89-84 in the Champion's Classic.

Kansas trailed by 14 early in the game, but rallied in the second half behind a historic performance from Hunter Dickinson. The star center finished with 27 points and 21 rebounds, establishing himself as the best player on the floor.

Kevin McCullar Jr had a triple double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. It is the third official triple double in Jayhawk basketball history.

KU will travel to Maui as the clear top team in the nation.

In many ways, Sarah Madsen has been the rock of consistency for head coach Deardin Kelley in her first two seasons as a college coach.

Madsen recently wrapped up her sophomore season with nearly 800 kills and 800 digs, impacticing the game both offensively and defensively. The outside hitter was also named All-KJCCC for the second consecutive season.

She says this was always her plan entering her JUCO career.

Madsen will forever be a part of the inaugural class of Deardin Kelley's CCC career. She says that is something she is very grateful for.

Kelley has referred to the Hiawatha product as one of the hardest workers she's ever been around. Madsen says she wants to outwork everyone.

The Lady Ravens are up one spot to #17 in the national rankings, one of five unbeaten KJCCC teams in the women's Top 25. The other four ranked teams are Butler (#6), Dodge City (#11), Barton (#19), and Hutchinson (#22).

CCC men's basketball is receiving votes to be ranked, but didn't quite make the Top 25 despite a 3-1 start. The Barton Cougars are the top ranked men's team at #9, with the Butler Grizzlies also ranked at #14. Both Hutchinson and Garden City are also receiving votes along with Coffeyville.

Non-conference play wraps up across the conference this week, with the Ravens opening KJCCC play against Pratt on Saturday.

The top pitcher on last season's Red Raven baseball team has announced his commitment to a Division 1 university.

Right-handed pitcher Ricky Hernandez will be playing baseball at Oral Roberts University, making the jump from JUCO to D1 after just one season.

Hernandez was impressive in his lone season as a Red Raven, tying the program record with nine wins in 14 starts. He ended the season with 81 strikeouts, and was a valuable presence for head coach Jake Martin, often working deep into games.

Oral Roberts is coming off the best season in school history, winning 52 games and earning a trip to the College World Series for the first time in the program's history. 

 The Tri-Valley All League Football awards have been released, and the Caney Valley Bullpups once again have several names on the list.

 Offensively, seniors Aden Gorby, Garrett Watson, Jackson Griffin made the list. Junior Ben Matthews was also named to the offensive team, while Jack Murphy was an honorable mention.

 Defensively, Ace Koester, Griffin, Xavier Gaston and Watson made the list, while Matthews was an honorable mention.

 Senior Garrett Watson was named the Tri-Valley punter of the year, with Igor Santiago named the kicker of the year.

 The Bullpups finished 5-4 on the season.

The Coffeyville Lady Ravens have won five in a row to open the season, sweeping the Gillham's Classic over the weekend.

CCC opened the weekend with a 115-38 win over Haskell Indian Nations JV. Bailey Layman led the Ravens with 24, while Alexis Parker, Bailey Melton, Jordan Snyder, and Karys Washington all had double digit points off the bench. The Ravens forced 27 turnovers, and won the rebound battle 65-29.

The success continued into Saturday, with a 78-47 win over NEO. The Ravens were led by the duo of Layman and Kyleigh Ortiz, who combined for 27 points, as well as Tetona Woods-Blackowl, who had 11 points and seven assists. Jordan Snyder also capped off a successful weekend, scoring 11 points in back to back games.

Head coach Tony Turner says the team continues to improve, making his job difficult.

CCC will almost certainly move up in the updated NJCAA national rankings, and will look to win on the road against NEO on Wednesday in their final non-conference game.

A season full of close losses and frustration saw more of the same in a 26-21 loss to Garden City.

The Raven defense gave up a pair of big play touchdown passes, a 77-yard pass to Isaiah Brevard, as well as a 91-yard score to Keyon Brown. The Broncbusters emphasized running the football early and often, with sophomore Fred Davis rushing for 168 yards on 36 carries.

Enzo Tedesco hooked up with Joseph Young for a 20-yard touchdown late in the first half. Geremiah Moore entered the game in the second half, and threw for a pair of touchdown passes, a 14-yard pass to Baylor Nash, and a 5-yard throw to Brec Long.

The Red Ravens finish the season with a 3-7 record, and 1-5 in conference play. Six of the seven CCC losses came by nine points or fewer.

The high school football season in the state of Kansas has reached the Final Four, across each of the major classes.

In 6A, Gardner-Edgerton (10-1) will square off with Blue Valley (7-4) on one side of the bracket, while Washburn Rural (11-0) plays Derby (10-1) in the other matchup.

5A sees the Mill Valley Jaguars (9-2) against the Blue Valley Southwest Timberwolves (10-1), as well as the Kapuan Mt. Carmel Crusaders (10-1) versus the Goddard-Eisenhower Tigers (10-1).

The final four in 4A showcases Tonganoxie (9-2) against St. Thomas Aquinas (8-3), as well as Wamego (9-2) taking on Andover Central (8-3).

In 3A, Holton battles Topeka Hayden, as well as a highly anticipated rematch between Andale and Cheney. 2A has Sabetha versus Nemaha Central, and Hoisington versus Norton.

Red Raven football takes the field one final time in the 2023 season, hosting the Garden City Broncbusters tomorrow afternoon.

Coffeyville is 3-6 on the season, coming off a tough 20-17 loss to Iowa Western, while Garden City is 4-6 on the season, following a close loss to Snow.

It will be sophomore day for a number of Raven football players. Head coach Jeff Leiker says it's one last chance to play for the guy next to you.

The Raven running game has been largely effective this season, with recent contributions from freshman Zavion Parks. Leiker says Parks has continued to progress, earning him more opportunities.

Following a road tournament in Arkansas last weekend, the Coffeyville Lady Ravens are back in Nellis Hall tonight to battle Haskell JV.

CCC is 3-0 to start the season, and playing elite team defense, despite a slower start shooting the basketball.

Head coach Tony Turner says he's proud of his team for staying focused on the defensive end.

The Lady Ravens have already seen strong efforts from multiple players including Olivia Dyja, Karys Washington, and Ivy Fox, showcasing the team's overall depth.

Turner says the team's talent makes it difficult to decide on lineups.

The Red Raven volleyball season may be over, but players are still receiving accolades following a successful campaign.

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Madsen has been named to both the Division II All-KJCCC team, as well as the Region VI team. Madsen receives second-team honors for both.

Madsen had 13 double-double matches this year, posting at least 10 kills and 10 digs in a single match. She averaged nearly three kills per set, and also had an efficient .221 hitting percentage for her career.

The Hiawatha product contributed to over 900 points in her CCC career, and will graduate with 785 career kills and 793 career digs.

One of the top players for the Coffeyville Lady Ravens has announced the next chapter of her basketball career.

Sophomore guard Kyleigh Ortiz formally committed to Wichita State University to continue her college career following this season. Ortiz is one of the best 3-point shooters in the country, finishing Top 5 in the KJCCC last season.

Ortiz says Wichita State felt like home almost immediately.

Wichita State is led by first year head coach Terry Nooner, who recently called Ortiz "one of the best pure shooters in the nation." Nooner was recently associate head coach at Kansas, leading the Lady Jayhawks to the NIT Championship game.

Ortiz says she thinks this is the perfect fit.

Kyleigh will finish the season with CCC, and will become a Shocker next summer.

Kansas State will be without an experienced guard for the non-conference portion of the season.

Senior Ques Glover is expected to miss 6-8 weeks due to a knee injury suffered last week in the team's final exhibition game.

Glover played the past two season's at Samford, averaging 14.7 points per game last season after averaging 19.2 points per game as a junior. He also spend two seasons at Florida where he was teammates with former Wildcat star Keyontae Johnson.

Playing high school basketball in Knoxville, Tennessee, Glover was the 2018 Knoxville Player of the Year, leading Bearden High School to a state championship.

Glover is in his final season of college eligibility, and is expected to return in late December.

A young team learns its first hard lesson, as the Ravens can't hold on to a late lead and fall in overtime to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, 95-90.

Coffeyville got off to a hot start, leading by 12 points in the first half and taking an eight point lead to the half. However, NEO would continue to claw back all night long, and keep the pressure on an inexperienced CCC team.

Assistant coach Jake Odum says the team made some crucial mistakes late.

Brian Griffith had his best game as a Raven, scoring 22 points off the bench. Odum says he has the ability to hit big shots for this team.

Cris Carroll had 19 points, and Izek Jackson had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Red Raven men's team will be back in action next Wednesday for a rematch with NEO in Miami.

The Nado receive 12 All-SEK 1^st Team Honors including a player of the year.

Nado Running Back Aaron Tunstall is named SEK Offensive Player of the Year and 1^st Team All-SEK RB. Tunstall finished the season rushing for 1783 yards and 22 touchdowns. Kainen White is named 1^st team All-SEK Offensive and Defensive Line. White, in just seven games, had 30 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and two forced fumbles. Brayson Voss is named 1^st team All-SEK Linebacker and Honorable Mention Offensive Line. Voss finished the season with 119 tackles, nine tackles for loss, one sack and three forced fumbles.

Ke'Shawn Hayes is named 1^st team All-SEK Wide Receiver and Defensive Back. On offense, Hayes had nine catches for 162 yards and two touchdowns and on defense had 36 tackles, one tackle for loss, four interceptions and one fumble recovery. Amanie Luten is named 1^st team All-SEK Wide Receiver and Defensive Back. Luten had 11 catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns, 50 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Keiton Jones is named 1^st team All-SEK Offensive Line. Jo Neuenschwander is named 1^st team All-SEK Linebacker. Neuenschwander had 70 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Brayden Gilfillan is named 1^st team All-SEK Punter. Gilfillan punted the ball 25 times for a total of 1125 yards and dropped six punts inside the 20. Zac Becker is named 1^st team All-SEK Kicker. Becker was 35/40 on extra points, had 53 kick-offs with 25 touch-backs and a total of 2985 yards with a long of 75 yards.

The Nado finished the season with a 6-4 record and were second in the SEK League standings. That's back-to-back 6-4 seasons for Head Coach Deonta Wade who in the last two seasons has improved his record improved to 16-21 after starting 4-13.

Coffeyville looks to build off an impressive opening week of the season, welcoming Northeastern Oklahoma A&M to Nellis Hall for a highly anticipated matchup.

The Red Ravens are 3-0 on the season, while the Golden Norsemen are 2-2 with losses to the Barton Cougars and the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. NEO was ranked in the preseason NJCAA Top 25 rankings.

A pair of freshmen, Jahni Summers and CJ Smith, have been impact players early in their CCC career. Head coach Jay Herkelman says those two are trusted to do a variety of things.

The Golden Norsemen have good size and depth on their roster, including former Raven big Javarzia Belton. Herkelman says Belton will be a difficult matchup for his defense.

The West Elk Patriots are in the state quarterfinals, and matchup with the unbeaten second-ranked Lyndon Tigers this week.

West Elk has won seven consecutive games heading into the matchup, while Lyndon is 10-0 on the season, with wins over Burlingame, South Sumner, Cair Paravel, and Chase County.

Patriots coach Chris Haag says the Tigers are as good as people say.

West Elk is playing their best football of the season, but will face their toughest opponent of the season to this point. Haag says he wouldn't change a thing about how this season has gone to this point.

The Patriots and Tigers will square off in Lyndon on Friday night.

A memorable opening week in Coffeyville for Cris Carroll is capped off with a league honor.

Carroll is the Week 1 KJCCC Division 1 Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

The Hutchinson transfer has been one of the nation's best scorers this season, scoring 80 total points in three games for a 26.7 PPG average. Carroll has also been efficient, shooting 55% from the field, and knocking down 18 of 27 three-point shots.

Carroll and the Red Ravens are off to a 3-0 start to the season, and welcome NEO to Nellis Hall tomorrow night.

Other players nominated were Lajae Jones of Barton, Ja'Ron Briggs Jr of Cloud County, and Maxence Massadila of Colby.

The Kansas Jayhawks opened the 2023-24 season looking like the nation's top team, routing North Carolina Central 99-56.

Kansas shot nearly 70% from the field, and over 50% from behind the three-point line. Transfer Hunter Dickinson had 21 points, only missing one shot on the evening.

Kevin McCullar Jr led the team with 22 points, and KJ Adams added 12 points as well. Senior point guard Dajuan Harris facilitated the offense at a high level, finishing with 10 assists.

Jayhawks coach Bill Self says he is very pleased with his team's performance in Game 1.

KU will have one more home game against Manhattan on Friday, before a massive showdown of blue bloods against Kentucky next week.

Kansas State experienced offensive struggles for most of the season opener, resulting in an 82-69 loss to USC in Las Vegas.

The Wildcats finished the night shooting just 31% from the field, the lowest in any game under Jerome Tang.

Tang says, however, he doesn't think shot selection was an issue for his team.

Former Coffeyville point guard Tylor Perry had 22 points in his KSU debut, scoring 16 points in the second half.

Perry says the team will learn from this game.

KSU returns to Bramlage Coliseum on Friday night to open the home schedule against Bellarmine.

The Kansas State Wildcats aim to build off the dream first season under Jerome Tang, and open season two tonight in Las Vegas.

KSU opens up with the USC Trojans in the Las Vegas Hall of Fame Series. It will be the sixth all-time meeting, with the Wildcats leading 4-1 in the series.

This will be the first season opener on the road for Kansas State since 2002, when KSU lost to BYU in the Paradise Jam.

The Trojans are led by top high school player Isaiah Collier and son of NBA legend LeBron James, Bronny James. The Wildcats will rely on transfers Arthur Kaluma and Tylor Perry to replicate the success of Markquis Nowell and Keyontae Johnson last season.

Many people across the country consider the Kansas Jayhawks to be the nation's best basketball team, and tonight KU gets their first opportunity to defend their number.

The Jayhawks open the season against North Carolina Central from Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence. This game kicks off the inaugural McLendon Classic, honoring legendary former coach John McLendon.

Jayhawks coach Bill Self says he wants to see his team play loose tonight.

Kansas has won 50 consecutive home openers, and return three key starters from last season in Dajuan Harris Jr., Kevin McCullar Jr, and KJ Adams Jr. The Jayhawks also landed the nation's best available transfer in former Michigan star Hunter Dickinson.

This will be the first meeting in the history of the two programs. Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. with tip at 7 on Greatest Hits 104.1 FM.

Field Kindley season comes to an end in heartbreaking fashion falling to Wellington 27-20. In what many thought would be a back-and-forth battle between two offensive powerhouses started as a defensive battle.

A Kainen White interception would setup the Nado's first scoring drive as DeOntay Gallindo would give them a 7-0 lead on a seven-yard touchdown run.  The Crusaders would answer back before halftime tying things up 7-7 headed into the break. Coffeyville would regain the lead 14-7 after an Axel Erne touchdown run, but Wellington would answer right back tying things back up 14-14 for the fourth quarter.

Aaron Tunstall would finally break one loose in the fourth going 60-yards and after a missed extra point Coffeyville would lead 20-14. The Crusaders would answer back with a touchdown of their own but a bad snap would lead to a failed extra point keeping the game tied.

With 12 seconds left in the game, Wellington would strike for the final time advancing them to the next round to face Wamego. Tunstall finished the game with 224 yards and one touchdown giving him 1,761 yards rushing for the season and 22 rushing touchdowns.

It's been one of the best debut weeks for a Red Raven in recent memory, with transfer Cris Carroll top 10 nationally in scoring, and leading the Ravens to a 3-0 start.

Following 29 points in the season opening win over Fort Scott, Carroll picked up where he left off, dropping 27 points on Friday night in a 74-48 win over Seminole State.

Assistant coach Jake Odum says Carroll can take this team to new heights.

The Raven defense continued their elite start as well, limiting the Trojans to just two made 3-point shots, and a 9% clip from behind the arc.

Coffeyville routed the Builders of Southwestern JV on Saturday 109-54. Carroll finished with 24, Boubacar Keita had 16 points and 15 rebounds, and CJ Smith had 13 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.

Coffeyville is rolling through the opening week of the season, and will face their toughest test yet when they welcome NEO to Nellis Hall on Wednesday night.

The Lady Ravens are off to a 3-0 start, winning both games over the weekend to sweep the North Arkansas Classic.

CCC opened the weekend with a 61-38 victory over Crowder College. Despite a slow start shooting, and even trailing at the half, Coffeyville found their groove in the second half.

Freshman Karys Washington had 17 points, Ivy Fox had 14, and Bailey Layman had 12.

The momentum rolled into Saturday with a hard fought 58-47 win over North Arkansas College. Kyleigh Ortiz and Fox each had 14 points, and Layman added nine points on a trio of 3-point shots.

Coffeyville is back at Nellis Hall Friday night to take on Haskell JV, looking to stay unbeaten in the non-conference.

It was by no means pretty, but the Kansas City Chiefs are able to fly back to the U.S. with a victory over the Miami Dolphins.

Kansas City scored all 21 of their points in the first half, and held on for dear life as the Dolphins battled back to a one score deficit.

Patrick Mahomes completed 20 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Nine different Chiefs had at least one catch, with eight different players having multiple catches.

The play of the game was in the second quarter, when Mike Edwards recovered a Tyreek Hill fumble and lateraled to safety Bryan Cook, who ran it back for a defensive touchdown.

Kansas City is 7-2 on the season entering the bye week, and will host the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch on November 20th.

With just two games left in the season, the Red Ravens head on the road to take on undefeated #2 Iowa Western.

Coffeyville pulled off the upset at home last season against an Iowa Western team that was also ranked #2. Coach Leiker says this year they're playing the role of spoiler.

The Reivers come into this game 9-0 and Coffeyville sits at 3-5. The Red Ravens could finish the season at .500 with an upset over Iowa Western and a win at home against Garden City to finish the season. Pregame starts at 12:30pm with kick-off at 1:00pm on US 98.

Field Kindley heads on the road to take on Wellington in their week two playoff matchup.

Both teams have hit their stride offensively in the last two weeks with the Nado combining for 109 points and the Crusaders scoring 95. Head Coach Deonta Wade says at this point in the season you never know what you'll get from a team.

Coach Wade says this Wellington team plays fast and physical.  Wellington finished the season 6-2 and is the four seed in the playoffs. The Crusaders beat Circle in their first-round matchup 41-34. Pregame is at 6:35pm with kick-off at 7:00pm on Sonshine 98.9.

Fans were eager to watch the new look Coffeyville Red Ravens for the first time, and the initial impression was strong as CCC rolled over Fort Scott 91-61 on opening night.

Coffeyville came out of the gate quickly, building a multiple possession lead in less than a minute. Izek Jackson had a double-double posting 10 points and 16 rebounds on the night. Freshmen Jahni Summers and CJ Smith also had impressive debuts, contributing 13 and 12 points, respectively.

However, the story of the season opener was the Hutchinson transfer, Cris Carroll, who erupted for 29 points in his Raven debut. Carroll finished 8-15 from the field, with five made three-point shots, and was perfect from the free throw line.

Assistant coach Jake Odum says Carroll has a chance to be a special player for this team.

The Ravens dominated the rebound battle, grabbing 18 more boards than Fort Scott, and forced 19 Greyhounds turnovers on the night.

Coffeyville will play a pair of games at Nellis Hall this weekend, with Seminole State in town tomorrow night, and Southwestern JV on the slate Saturday afternoon. Both games can be heard on US 98 and the Red Raven Sports Network.

In the first game since being nationally ranked by the NJCAA, the goal for the Lady Ravens was to defend their number. On opening night, mission accomplished.

The Ravens rallied from a slow start offensively to rout the Labette County Cardinals 83-31, avenging the non-conference loss to Labette at Nellis Hall last season.

CCC began the night missing their first nine shots of the game, before freshman Karys Washington opened the scoring with a three-point shot. It was an encouraging sign for the depth of this team, with Olivia Dyja leading the scoring with 17 points, transfer Ivy Fox had 12, and freshman Alexis Parker had 12 in her college debut.

Head coach Tony Turner says the second team got off to a fantastic start last night.

The Lady Ravens will travel to Harrison, Arkansas for the North Arkansas Classic, with games against Crowder College tomorrow night and North Arkansas College on Saturday afternoon.

Kansas State wrapped up the preseason slate with an offensive masterpiece in a big win over Emporia State.

KSU dropped 51 points in each half, shooting 52% from the field on the night and converting on nine three-point shots. The Wildcats were also locked in from the free throw line, converting on 17 of 19 shots at the stripe.

Cam Carter led the team with 20 points, while Jerrell Colbert, Dai Dai Ames, and Arthur Kaluma also ended the night in double figures. Tylor Perry struggled with early foul trouble, but bounced back to finish with eight points and a team high five assists.

The Wildcats led for 39 of 40 minutes during the game, and received excellent bench scoring, with the second team putting in 53 points.

Hunter Dickinson led the Jayhawks with 17 points and 11 rebounds, with a majority of that production coming in the first half. Kevin McCullar Jr continued his strong preseason, scoring 21 points and leading the team in scoring.

The KU defense was also sharp in the final tune-up, forcing 13 turnovers, as well as six blocked shots. The Jahawks scored 34 points in the paint on the night, and shot 45% as a team.

A pair of conference championship contenders open the 2023-24 season tonight at Nellis Hall.

The Lady Ravens open the season as the 18th ranked team in the NJCAA, following a tournament run to the Region VI Championshiop game. CCC women's basketball opens the season against the Labette County Cardinals, a team that beat the Ravens at Nellis Hall last season.

Lady Raven coach Tony Turner says payback is always on the mind after a loss.

The men's team also kicks off their season against Fort Scott, a team that pushed the Ravens to overtime a season ago.

Head coach Jay Herkelman says that the Greyhounds will come prepared, and give his team an early season test.

The season opening doubleheader from Nellis Hall begins at 5:15 p.m. on US 98 and the Red Raven Sports Network.

Coffeyville Community College volleyball enters the Plains District Tournament with momentum, following three consecutive wins.

The Red Ravens will travel to battle the Johnson County Cavaliers in the opening round of the postseason tonight. Johnson County has won all three matchups with CCC in the Deardin Kelley era, but the Ravens have closed the gap each time, including taking the opening set earlier this season.

Kelley says she believes anyone in this league can win on any given night.

Coffeyville has continued to make strides under Kelley, now considered one of the contenders for a conference championship in the KJCCC. Kelley says her team enjoys the challenge of competing against the best.

The Red Ravens and the Cavaliers play in Overland Park at 6 p.m. tonight.

The West Elk Patriots have won six consecutive games, and are clicking entering the second round of the state playoffs.

West Elk is coming off of an opening round victory over Burlingame, and takes on Little River this week in Round 2.

The Patriots have scored at least 46 points in six straight games. Head coach Chris Haag says every group on offense is playing sensational right now.

Little River enters the matchup with a 7-2 record on the season. Haag says his team needs to perform like they did last week.

West Elk and Little River square off on Friday night in Howard.
