Danny John Pichler

On February 23, 2025 this world lost a great man, he was a wonderful husband, dad, son, brother and friend.  Danny John Pichler of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away unexpectedly at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center at the age of 70.

Dan was born on April 30, 1954 to Henry and Virginia (LaSota) Pichler in Pittsburg, Kansas, Dan was raised in the community of Franklin, where he was baptized at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. He attended grade school alongside his older sister, Sherry, and later transferred to Arma schools upon the consolidation of the district. He graduated from Arma Northeast High School in 1972, where he showcased his talents as a devoted athlete, participating in football, basketball, baseball, and track. At just 18, Dan began working at the local meat market, cultivating the skills that would define his career as a meat cutter.

After graduation he began working full-time and eventually left the local meat market moving to Oswego, Kansas to begin his career independently at the new Town and Country Grocery.  One evening while out scouting the town he stopped at the ball fields to watch the softball game being played. Dan had no idea what that adventure would lead to, it was at that game he met one of the players Edna Rose Elliott, little did he know she would be his future wife.  It was on November 4, 1978, he and Edna were married in Oswego.  Dan and Edna were blessed with the birth of their son Corey.  Dan's work often led his family to various locations, but they found their lasting home in South Coffeyville, where Dan dedicated over 50 years to his role as a meat cutter.  with his last ten year being at Country Mart in Coffeyville, where he also retired from retirement.

All who knew Dan will have wonderful memories of his deep love and dedication to his family, he was a dedicated protector who always prioritized Edna and Corey’s needs, even those that might seem minimal.   He showered those he loved and respected and many that he had never met with random acts of kindness.  He first was Corey’s dad but as Corey grew to be an adult he was also his best friend.

Dan enjoyed spending time with his wife of 46 years, they enjoyed the outdoors together.  Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting and looking for the perfect crop of Morel Mushrooms in the spring with Edna, and Corey.   Dan’s job as a meat cutter was something he truly enjoyed, he continued to use the skills and recipes that he first learned as a young 18-year-old to perfect the perfect blend for many Italian Sausages for his family and friends to enjoy.

Dan’s legacy will live on through his wife Edna of the home, his son Corey, sister Sherry Crepinske (Dan), brother’s-in-law, David and Geroge Elliott, sister-in-law Becky George.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Danny Elliott and sister-in-law Roberta (Elliott) Hobbs.

Rebecca Ann McMurray

Beloved mother, sister, wife, and friend, Rebecca Ann McMurray, passed away at her home in Tulsa, OK on February 7, 2025. She was 61 years old. Born March 22, 1963, to Harry and Catherine (Peak) Baldwin in Coffeyville, KS, Rebecca was the youngest of six siblings (in a house with only one bathroom!) and spent her childhood and adolescence riding her bike around Coffeyville, playing with her treasured Barbie Dream Camper(TM), studying hard, and later, performing in high school plays and marching in drum corps with her bass baritone bugle. In her senior year of high school, she was cast as Lucy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and met Kevin McMurray, the young man playing Linus - and even though she punched him on

stage every single night during the run of the play, they fell in love. They were married in Coffeyville, KS on November 29, 1986. In May of the next year, they welcomed a daughter, Rachel McMurray, and Rebecca’s most difficult and fulfilling life’s work began: motherhood.

Rebecca worked many jobs before and after becoming a mother. She started at KGGF, spinning records at the radio station in Coffeyville and once even talking on the phone to radio legend “Wolf Man” Jack. She then spent many years working as a bank teller in Coffeyville, then in Pittsburg, before working as a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. Once Rachel was in school, Rebecca pursued many different interests: volunteering and then teaching in elementary education, baking and decorating cookies for Cookie Bouquet, then working as an administrative assistant at a State Farm agency, until finally becoming a claims adjuster for State Farm herself. In spite of her numerous jobs, she always made it a priority to attend every one of Rachel’s choir recitals, every school play performance, every award assembly. She opened her home to Rachel’s friends and classmates, always welcoming each kid with a smile, a joke, and plentiful snacks, and many of Rachel’s friends came to love her as a second mom as a result. She was an incredible cook and baker - everyone who knew her likely remembers her famous sugar cookies, each one hand-iced and hand-decorated. She would spend days making and decorating them each holiday season, along with enough Chex Mix to feed a small army.

Working and raising a child were not her only calling, however. Rebecca always prioritized academics, graduating with honors from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, attending Coffeyville Junior College, then graduating Summa Cum Laude with her B.A. in Elementary Education from Oklahoma State University. She was a voracious reader; Stephen King was her favorite author, and she got to see him speak multiple times, owned first editions of all his books as well as a letter from him, and even won a signed copy of one of his novels. Her love of books instilled a lifelong love of reading in her daughter, her nieces and nephews, and their children too. One of Rebecca’s most enduring legacies is the library of books she gave to each child in her family over the course of their lives. She was the “book aunt” and she loved it, taking great care to pick out each book to meet the needs and interests of each child. She loved travelling, trying new foods, going to museums, and always seemed to be “in the know” about the latest in pop culture. The arts were a driving force in her life, and she knew the words to every song on the radio, could tear up the mic at karaoke, and loved going to concerts, musicals, plays, and movies. She was unfailingly kind, generous, quick to laugh, and always the first to crack a joke, make a pun, or bring you a drink from Sonic (where she went every day to get her Rt. 44 unsweet iced tea). Her humor, joy, and endless love of animals, especially dogs, will be deeply missed.

Rebecca is predeceased by her parents Harry and Catherine Baldwin, and her brother, Dan Baldwin. She is survived by her husband, Kevin McMurray (Tulsa, OK); her daughter Rachel McMurray and her wife Jess Wagner (Philadelphia, PA); and her siblings: Fr. Mike Baldwin (Bel Aire, KS); Marilyn Hendrix and her husband Jim (Coffeyville, KS); David Baldwin and his wife Cindy (Coffeyville, KS); Barbara Statuto and her husband Dan (Tulsa, OK), as well as her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Rebecca’s family welcomes you to join us for a celebration of life at Floral Haven (Tulsa, OK) in the Rose Chapel on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 11:00 am. Her brother Fr. Mike Baldwin will officiate. Rebecca requested to be cremated and for Kevin and Rachel to spread her ashes over water in Hawaii, the place she visited that she loved most in the world.

In honor of her commitment to improving the lives of both children and dogs, Rebecca has requested that friends and family consider making a donation to St. Jude’s children’s hospital (www.stjude.org/tribute) or the Humane Society of Tulsa https://www,tulsapets.com/donate  in lieu of flowers.

Ruth and Vernon were living in South Coffeyville in March of 1954 when they had their only child, and apple of their eye, Kathy.  Kathy married Ed Pruitt in 1972, and they became Grandparents when Erin, the sunshine of their life, was born.  She was a doting mother and grandmother that was so very proud of her family.

Ruth had a fierce work ethic and worked at a number of places in the area including Funk Manufacturing and Rok-A-Chair Manufacturing.  She was later the proprietor of Ruth’s Hilltop Upholstery Shop for many years and helped Vernon run their 80-acre farm. In retirement, she “slowed down” by working at Homeland and greeting people at Walmart.

She also had a fierceness in how she lived her life.  It could be seen when she faced down an angry bull with a pitchfork (she won).  This fierceness could also be seen when someone she loved had been mistreated.  She definitely showed her fierceness when she decided to put her life in danger and teach Erin to drive.  She was the fiercest in her Christian faith.  It was evident every day, to everyone who knew her that her faith in Jesus was absolute and unwavering.

Ruth is preceded in death by the love her life Vernon, her parents, her 8 siblings, and her granddaughter Devan.  She is survived by her daughter Kathy Pruitt, Son-in-law Ed Pruitt, Granddaughter Erin Menze, and Grandson-in-law Andrew Menze.

Funeral services celebrating Ruth’s life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11am at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas, niece Elizabeth Inman of Dream Big Ministries will be officiating.  The family will receive friends on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 5 to 7pm also at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.  Cremation will take place following the service and Ruth will be inurned at North Edna Cemetery next to her late husband Vernon Ames at a later date.  The family has requested for those who choose to honor Ruth’s life by memorial contribution that they be made payable to either Dream Big Ministries or Homesteaders of Owasso-Activity Fund for the residents where she resided.  To leave an online message of condolence, share a memory or view live streaming of the service visit www,fordwulfbrunschapel.com
