Billie Dean Rexwinkle

Billie Dean Rexwinkle passed away in his home in Afton, Oklahoma, at the age of 95 with his family near his side on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

Born on August 31, 1930, in rural Craig County, Oklahoma, Billie was the third youngest of thirteen children of Charles Henry and Ida Belle (Acridge) Rexwinkle. Of his siblings, only his sister Ann survives him.

Billie, alongside his siblings, walked to the one-room school just down the road from their home. He was known, from time to time, to check his trotline on the way to school. As a young teen, Billie began attending Edna High School, where he completed his education before enrolling in college courses as an adult.

In 1961, Billie married Jane, and of that union seven children were born. The couple later divorced, but the love for their children remained. In 1979, he married Candy Bixler; of that union, two children were born, and they have shared forty-six years together.

Billie worked various jobs over his career and was truly a jack of all trades! He was an electrician for several years before beginning employment with Lockheed Aircraft as a Facility Engineer, where he retired. Retirement was just not something Billie could settle into, and he found himself working at Jensen’s until its closure. He continued to work here and there, helping where he could. Was it work or was it a hobby? It was hard to define for Billie, as he enjoyed working.

When Billie officially “retired” from receiving a paycheck, he continued to work or tinker around the place, always finding something to fix or work on. He enjoyed raising cattle, going fishing occasionally, or helping the neighbor down the road. He would literally give the shirt off his back for anyone who needed it; that is just who he was. He was a good husband, dad, grandpa, friend, and neighbor.

Billie was a simple man who loved his family with all of his heart. He leaves behind his wife Candy of the home; their nine children: John Rexwinkle, Jimmie Rexwinkle (Kim), Danny Rexwinkle (Jackie), Donnie Rexwinkle (Darlene), Debbie Taylor (Hardy), Delbert Rexwinkle, Delores Frank, Jeremy Rexwinkle (April), and Sarah Rexwinkle; his only surviving sister Ann; twenty grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and eleven siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave, Coffeyville, Kansas, with his son, Pastor Danny Rexwinkle, officiating. Billie will be laid to rest near his parents at Elm Grove Cemetery, also known as North Edna Cemetery, immediately following services. She was born on September 12, 1941, in Delaware, Oklahoma.  Her parents were T.R. and Louise (Ryan) Lester, and she grew up and attended school in Delaware, graduating from Delaware High School.

Jean married Pete Campbell, with whom she had one son, James Campbell. Pete, her first husband, preceded her in death.

Jean devoted her life to love, faith, and community. She was a woman of many talents and passions, but what mattered most to her were her family, her church, and her friends. A dedicated co-owner and co-operator of Strickland's Cafe and the Port Grill in Coffeyville, she later served the community through her work at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center as a nursing aide.  She ended her working career at Windsor Place Home Health.

Together with her husband, Larry Rhoden, whom she married on September 1, 1964, they not only ran successful local businesses but also created a warm and welcoming space for all who entered.  To this day, any person who worked under her instruction has nothing but encouraging words to say and hilarious stories to share.  Her immense talent for painting and ceramics added a creative flair to her work and life, and her faith led her to be a prolific volunteer at her church, ready to step in anytime she was asked.

Jean is survived by her adoring husband, Larry Rhoden; her loving children, James Campbell, Shane (Kari) Rhoden, and Brooke (Kent) Hackman; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents (T.R. and Louise Lester), her first husband (Pete Campbell), her grandson (Kyle Campbell), one brother, and two sisters.

Her family would like everyone to know that in her final moments, she was surrounded by those who shared her life with her, and they consider it an honor to have been present.  They also want everyone to know she was a strong, Godly woman who never missed an opportunity to help someone in need, regardless of their situation or place in life.  In one lifetime, Jean accomplished more than most in terms of faith, hysterical stories, and the respect of her peers.  She was the perfect mix of grit, kindness, and timely advice.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road in Coffeyville.
