Gary Eugene Stephens

Coffeyville mourns the peaceful passing of Gary Eugene Stephens, 67, who left us on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Advena Living of Cherryvale. Gary's life was a testament to his deep faith, dedication to family, and unwavering commitment to his community, especially its youth.

Born in Parsons, Kansas, on October 7, 1957, Gary was the cherished son of Lillie P. Stephens. He grew up and received his education in both Parsons and Coffeyville.

Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge, before returning home. He applied his skills in carpentry and later answered a higher calling, becoming a Minister.

Gary was a devoted member of the Church of God in Christ and later founded his own church ministry, sharing his spiritual guidance with many. Though a skilled boxer in his younger years, Gary's lasting legacy is rooted in his profound impact on the Coffeyville community. For many years, he tirelessly organized beloved Easter Egg Hunts and spirited 3-on-3 basketball tournaments, bringing joy and positive influence to countless young lives.

He treasured time spent with his family above all else and was united in marriage to Lapetra "Sis Pete" Smith, who preceded him in death.

Gary's memory will be forever cherished by his children, whom he considered his greatest blessings: Ebonie (Leo) Hardy, Justin (Jan) Strickland, and Lapetra’s children he lovingly raised as his own: KJ Metcalf, Jessica (Travis) Pearson, Antonio Smith, and Brittany Smith. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Tonya (Roger Martin) Stephens, Annette (Brent Hardrick) Porter, and Lisa (Leroy Alcox) Stephens, his uncle, Charles Stephens; thirteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Mosely; his wife, Lapetra Stephens; and his grandparents, Ray and Helen Stephens.

A Home Going Celebration will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11:30am at First Church of God in Christ in Coffeyville.

Friends may call on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

Douglas Albert Dewey

 

Douglas Albert Dewey, age 70 passed away unexpectantly at his home in Coffeyville, Kansas on June 20, 2025.

 

 

 

Doug was born to Dennis Albert and Shirley Ann (Schott) Dewey on March 31, 1955 in Coffeyville, Kansas. Doug was one of three children and grew up Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kinley Memorial High School.

 

 

 

Doug has had various careers over the years; his all-time favorite job was at Wal-Mart as a door greeter where he had retired just a few years ago. He developed longtime friendships over his ten-year at Wal-Mart.

 

 

 

Doug is survived by his children Josh Dewey and wife Marlo, Emily Abel and husband Greg, Michelle Taylor and husband Sheldon, grandchildren Clayton Hood, Carli Welch, Destiney Scott, Traycer Maxson, Kagen "Gauge" Franklin and Ethan Peyton, great-grandchild Ember Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings David Dewey and Janet Folk.

Nancy Charlotte Rogers

Nancy Charlotte Rogers, 90, of Caney passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Guest Homes Estates in Caney.

 

She was born on June 23, 1934, in Coffeyville to William Preston and Lucy Helen (White) Harrison. Charlotte grew up and attended school in the Tyro, Wayside and Caney area where she attended school graduating from Wayside High School in 1953.

 

She married Reginald “Rags” Dixon, he later passed away.

 

On April 2, 1962, she married James E. Rogers in Miami, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Tyro and Caney area, where they raised their children. Her husband preceded her in death.

 

Charlotte worked as a waitress for several years, sold Avon, was a nurse’s aide at Coffeyville Memorial Hospital, and was employed at KOPCO in Caney for many years until retiring in 2004.

 

She was a member of Hope Church in Caney, and a proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation. She enjoyed reading, working on puzzles, and spending time with her family and her dogs.

 

Survivors include her children, Lisa (Andrew) Thach of Carl Junction, Missouri, and Douglas Wayne Rogers of Caney; step-children, Connie Dugan of Wichita, and Jimmy (Debbie) Rogers of Mounds, Oklahoma; her sister, Peggy Smith of Tyro; her brothers, Allen Harrison of Canadian, Oklahoma, and Jim Harrison of Van Buren, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, infant daughter Angela Lynn Rogers; step-daughter, Cheryl Honeycutt; infant sister, Judith Harrison; and brothers, Billy, Charles, and Don Harrison.

 

Funeral Services celebrating Charlotte’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Hope Church, 301 N. McGee in Caney with Pastor Doyle Brummett and Pastor Preston Harrison of Osawatomie, Kansas officiating. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney.

 

Friends may call on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will greet friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald Leroy Morris

Donald Leroy Morris, age 81 of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on June 17, 2025 with loved ones near, at Medicalodges on Midland in Coffeyville.

 

 

 

Don was born on June 25, 1943 in Beaver, Oklahoma to Nelson Leroy and Vivian Marie (Blosser) Morris. During his yearly childhood Don and his family moved to Missouri for a short while and then to rural Montgomery County, Kansas. Don attend school at Havana until it’s closure. He then completed his education in Independence, Kansas, graduating from Independence High School.

 

 

 

Don went to work immediately after the school year ended his senior year, even missing graduation to join a Wheat Harvest Crew traveling west for harvest. When harvest season was over, he came back to Independence and began working for the local Ford Dealership as a tractor mechanic in the early 1960’s. On to what seemed as bigger and better employment opportunities he began working in the Oil Fields of Oklahoma as a driller. With the decline in drilling during those days, he once again returned to Independence seeking employment opportunities and he went to work for the Police Department for two years. Next was a short stint as professional welder and then back to ranching again, this time in Colorado and then back to Kansas. The next few years were spent at Clarence Plumbing and also building houses. It was in 1980 that he found his true calling in life, he became a Deputy Sherrif for Montgomery County, Kansas where he retired as sergeant in 2005. Through his many different places of employment he also was an independent farmer and rancher on land that has been in his family, currently spanning into the fifth generation.

 

In addition to seeking employment after high school he married Bonnie McBroom and of that union a son Travis was born. They made their home in rural Kansas and Colorado and then back to Kansas. The couple later divorced. Don later married Virginia Moody and of that union they had two children Kristi and Michael. The couple later divorced. Don remained in the Independence and Coffeyville Area until his passing.

 

 

 

In Don’s spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an avid gunman enjoying target shooting with both pistol and rifle. His greatest enjoyment in life was his family, spending time with his kids and grandson.

 

Don is survived by his sons Travis Morris and his wife Angela, Mike Morris and his wife Chasity, his daughter Kristi Morris and companion Danny Mavers, his grandchildren, Jason Morris and his wife Kelly, Tyler and Karly Morris and great-grandson Aiden Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Raymond and Virgil “Gene” Morris.

 

 

 

Don’s family wants to express the kindness of his fellow Montgomery County Sherrif’s Deputies both active and retired. The numerous citizens and friends that have express their gratitude for Don’s service to the community.

 

Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel has been entrusted with Don's care.   The family are following through with Don's request his family will have a private gathering for a time of reflection on his life where he will be laid to rest at a private family cemetery. Wyatt Thomas Johnson

Wyatt Thomas Johnson, age 22, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away unexpectedly from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. 

 

Wyatt was born on April 10, 2003, in Coffeyville, Kansas to parents, Wayne Johnson and Heather McGuire.  Wyatt grew up in Coffeyville where he attended local schools, graduating amongst his lifelong friends from Field Kindley High School with the class of 2022. 

 

Wyatt was full of life; after high school he worked as a plumber’s apprentice for McCullough Plumbing.  He loved the outdoors, hanging out at the farm with his grandpa, Walt or taking a ride on his motorcycle were some of his favorite past times.  Wyatt will be remembered for the way he could light up a room with his larger-than-life personality.  The bonds he formed with his family and friends ran deep. 

 

Wyatt will be greatly missed by his father, Wayne Johnson; grandparents, Walt and Drenda Johnson, Rick McGuire and Brenda Billingslee; brothers, Caleb and Haden Johnson; sister, Kiersten McGuire along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, and coworkers.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Heather McGuire and sister, Baylor Rose McGuire. 

 

Cremation will take place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. 

 

A visitation with the family present to greet friends will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

Jeffrey "Jeff" Wallace Hutchison

Jeffrey "Jeff" Wallace Hutchison, age 46, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Independence, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2025, at his residence.

 

 

 

Born on February 1, 1979, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jeff was the eldest son of Jeffrey Eugene and Betty Marie (Fowler) Hutchison. He shared a close bond with his younger brother, BJ, during their childhood. Following Jeff's birth, his father received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, and the family relocated to Blackwell, Oklahoma. When Jeff was about four years old, they moved to Marion, Kansas, and later to Independence, where he completed the largest part of his secondary education. In his junior year of high school, the family moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where Jeff excelled in accelerated classes and graduated early with honors from Bartlesville High School. During this time, he also enrolled in college courses at Independence Community College, ultimately completing his associate degree before transitioning to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

 

 

 

Jeff married Jennifer Evans, and the couple made their home in Houston, of that union Jeff gained a stepson Jake.  The couple later divorced but Jeff had remained in a close relationship with Jake.

 

 

 

Professionally, Jeff began his career in Houston, Texas, working with Imperial, followed by roles at Jacobs Linder, Saudi Aramco, and W.S. Nelson Sr. He served as owner JW Hutch Co. and was employed beginning in 2017 at Solar Turbines up to time of his passing. Throughout his career, he demonstrated his commitment to personal and professional growth by completing his Master of Engineering Management at Ohio University and obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Data Science from Columbia University.

 

 

 

Jeff was a self-motivated computer geek and was known for his exceptional expertise in computer programming, developing specialized software aimed at enhancing production management and document control. His remarkable intellect and self-motivated nature propelled him to continuously seek knowledge and improvement, as he approached every endeavor with unwavering dedication.

 

 

 

Valuing his relationships deeply, Jeff maintained a strong concern for the wellbeing of his family and friends, always eager to assist them in any capacity, whether by addressing their challenges or providing support in resolution.

 

 

 

Jeff is survived by his father and stepmother, Jeffrey "Jeff" Eugene and Julie Hutchison; stepson, Jake Evans, his brother, B.J. Hutchison; his stepsister, Cara Fisher; his nephew, James Hutchison; and his niece, Piper Hutchison. He is also survived by a host of aunts Rhea McPheeters, Ruth Bechtle (Greg), Donna Corrigan (Todd), Angela Guse (Jim), Sheri LeBlanc (Roger), Karen Cramer (Jim) and uncle Carl Scott (Joyce), cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Betty M. (Fowler) Hutchison; his infant brother, James Matthew Hutchison; his uncles, Bill Fowler, Larry Hutchison and Tom McPheeters; and both maternal and paternal grandparents.

 

 

 

The family will welcome friends on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Potts Chapel from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will take place at the chapel on June 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Shannon Dozier of Convergence Church. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest alongside his mother, Betty, and his infant brother, James Matthew Hutchison. Beverly Ann (Dobbs) McKinley

Beverly Ann (Dobbs) McKinley, age 80, of Coffeyville, KS passed to her heavenly home on June 12, 2025 in her home.

 

 

 

Beverly was born October 4, 1944 in Montevallo, MO to Martha and Kenneth Dobbs and was blessed with 12 siblings, Gary, Cotton, Sonny, Deanna, Rick, Doug, Dennis, Becky, Pat, Ann, Lisa and Penny. Beverly was raised in El Dorado Springs, MO area where she later graduated high school in 1962.

 

 

 

She later married the love of her life Kenneth Woodrow McKinley Jr in El Dorado Springs, MO on October 24, 1964 and was blessed with 2 children Kimberly Ann (McKinley) Yeubanks and Kenneth Wayne McKinley and they made their home in rural Coffeyville, KS, where they owned and operated a small diner "K & B Drive Inn" in Dearing, KS for 12 years, Beverly enjoyed tormenting her regular customers.

 

 

 

They may not have had much by today's standards, but they had each other, and through all the hard times, headaches and at times not so much money, they not only survived but thrived because of their LOVE for FAMILY! FAMILY!  was so important to Beverly & Kenneth both and their door was always open to FAMILY and friends.

 

 

 

Beverly enjoyed spending time with the doors open playing old county records while watching humming birds, reading romance novels, crafting, planting flowers, watching game and true crime shows, going to auctions and flea markets, decorating for holidays and pranking anyone she could but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren who were the light of her life.

 

 

 

Beverly has left this world to be with her husband Kenneth who preceded her in death on June 3, 2001. She is also joining her parents Martha and Kenneth Dobbs, her mother-in-law Gay Hazelwood along with 4 siblings Dennis Dobbs, Gary Dobbs, Andrea Yoder and Patricia Amick and several other family members.

 

Most of all her legacy and memory will live on through 8 siblings Cotton (Juva) Dobbs, Sonny (Brenda) Dobbs, Deanna Hada, Rick (Joy) Dobbs, Doug (Leita) Dobbs, Becky (Amor) Worthington, Lisa (Steve) Bryant and Penny (Bruce) Deragowski, I sister-in-law Leesa Jo (Robert) Coulter, 2 children Kimberly McKinley-Yeubanks and Kenneth (Sherry) McKinley, 7 grandchildren Amy Yeubanks, Elizabeth (Dustin) Thurman, Floyd (Phichada)Yeubanks, Amber (Mark) McCleary, Layne (Hannah) McKibben, Shelly Sands-Lafferty, and Colton (Chelcie) Cantrell, 9 great-great grandchildren Ayden Yeubanks, Ava Lafferty, Shady Ryan, Addyson Thurman, Savier Ryan, Teagan Thurman, Ethan Sanders, Brooklyn McKibben and Deakon Cantrell and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

 

 

 

Following Beverly’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Debra Ann "Debbie" Smith

Debra Ann “Debbie” Smith, 67, of Coffeyville passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at her home.

 

She was born on October 30, 1957, in Coffeyville to E.J. and Darlene (Rosson) Shy. Debbie grew up and attended school in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma and Lenapah, Oklahoma graduating from Lenapah High School in 1975.

 

Debbie worked as a waitress for many years, was employed at Acme Foundry and later at Casey’s General Store on Cline Road and 11th St.

 

On February 7, 2003, she married Roger Y. Smith at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Roger preceded her in death on May 5, 2009.

 

Debbie enjoyed camping and fishing at Big Hill Lake in Cherryvale and she also enjoyed spending time in the garden.

 

Debbie was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her chocolate pies and chicken and homemade noodles, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her son and grandchildren.

 

Survivors include her son, Barry Morgan and his wife Karen; her grandchildren, Cyler Morgan and Storm Morgan all of Girard, Kansas; her sister, Jackie Waddle and husband Jim of Lane, Kansas; niece, Lisa Cannady and husband Mike; nephew Shane Shy and wife Ronda; two aunts, one uncle, several great-nieces and great-nephews; and friend Tommy White.

 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, her husband, and three brothers, Chris Shy, Leslie “Skip” Shy, and E. J. Shy Jr.

 

Funeral Services will be Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church, 2701 W. 8th St. in Coffeyville with Pastor Matt Friese officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.

 

Friends may call on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Barbara Ellen (Peyton), (Thompson), Abbott

Our mother, Barbara Ellen (Peyton), (Thompson), Abbott, passed away on June 3rd, 2025, at “The Journey Home” in Bartlesville, Oklahoma after a courageous battle with cancer.

Barbara was born on June 26th, 1943, to Frank and Margaret (Hopkins) Peyton.  She attended schools in Liberty and Coffeyville, Kansas. She later married Lloyd Thompson, and they shared three children together, Rhonda Camp of Pflugerville, Texas, Lloyd LeRoy Thompson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Terry Thompson (deceased). Also, a bonus son, Charles Honeycutt of Plano, Texas.  After they divorced, she married Samuel Abbott of Coffeyville, Kansas. 

Barbara’s work history was in Coffeyville at TG&Y and Casey’s. After she moved to Dewey, Oklahoma, she worked for Dillard’s Department Store then finished her career at Bartlesville Health & Rehab Center where she enjoyed working in the kitchen alongside the dietitian preparing food for the residents. Oh’ how she loved to cook and entertain friends and family. She loved her cat, Ralph, and the many other pets that she had throughout the years.  She and her husband enjoyed working together at the rehab center for many years.  Mom enjoyed shopping for her home and decorating, which was a never-ending hobby of hers. Several years later after the loss of her spouse, Barbara moved to Bartlesville to be close in proximity to her son and daughter in law, where she resided until moving into “The Journey Home” to live out her final days where she was cared for by the amazing staff there, Cornerstone Hospice and her family.

She is survived by her children, Rhonda (Thompson) Camp of Pflugerville, Texas, Lloyd LeRoy Thompson and spouse, Robin, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Charles Honeycutt and spouse, Terry, of Plano Texas.  Also, left behind are five grandchildren: SaBrina Wilson and spouse, Reid, of Jarrell Texas, Tyson Kaminska of Pflugerville, Texas, Rebecca Nicholas and spouse, Cody, of Okinawa, Japan, Bethany Thompson of Cherryvale, Kansas and Jonathan Thompson and spouse, Lauren, of Coweta, Oklahoma. Eleven great grandchildren: Kaylie Wilson, Hanna Wilson, Rustin Wilson and Kymber Wilson of Jarrell, Texas, Layla Kaminska and Callie Kaminska of Pflugerville, Texas, Jackson Nicholas and Adalynn Nicholas of Okinawa, Japan, Jayden Gonzalez and Anistynn Perry of Cherryvale, Kansas and Noah Thompson of Coweta, Oklahoma. Siblings: Sister, Lois Mavers and spouse, Dan, of Independence, Kansas, her brothers, William (Bill, Willie) Peyton of Gainesville, Texas, and Dale Peyton and spouse, Marcie, of Goddard, Kansas.

Deceased family members are her parents, Oscar Frank and Margaret Ellen Peyton, sisters: Ethel Thompson, Corrine Thomas, Jody Hayden and Kathy Berryman, brothers: Frank (Savory, Sappy) Peyton and Darrell Peyton.  Also, many nieces, nephews and cousins. We would also like to mention a family friend, Lawrence Hilton, who was the son of mom’s best friend, Francis Hilton. They continued to share a close relationship after the loss of his parents.

Visitation will be open to the public on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at David W. Barnes Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  The family will be present to greet friends on Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Robbin’s Cemetery, west of Coffeyville, Kansas.  Elder Rick Freeman will officiate.  Interment will follow.

Jackie Sue Scott

Jackie Sue Scott, age 71, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. 

 

Jackie was born on June 26, 1953, in Coffeyville to Jack and Catherine (Brown) Conklin.  Growing up, the family moved around until her 6th grade year when they returned to Coffeyville.  Jackie attended local schools, graduating from Field Kindley High School. 

 

On July 15, 1970, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Charles Scott, Jr.  The couple made their home in Coffeyville, of this union a son, Charles Scott III was born.  Jackie loved being a wife and mother.  She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking cakes, sewing, crafting and painting. 

 

Surviving to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Charles Scott, Jr.; her siblings, Patty (Bill) Kinsey, Bill’ Conklin, Elizabeth (Robert) Cunningham along with numerous extended family members and friends. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Catherine Conklin, her son, Charles Scott III; brother, Donald Conklin and his wife, Tammy. 

 

The family will greet friends on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. 

 

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Chapel in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma.  Pastor Gary Close will officiate.  Burial will follow at Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.

Deborah "Debbie" Kay Manley

Deborah "Debbie" Kay Manley, a loving and compassionate soul, passed away at home in Coffeyville, Kansas on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the age of 77.

 

Debbie was born on May 30, 1948, in Concordia, Kansas to Gene and Mary (Sack) Mills. She grew up in Coffeyville where she attended Holy Name Catholic School and graduated from Field Kindley High School with the class of 1966.

 

On August 6, 1966, she married the love of her life, Orville "Jr" Manley, in Coffeyville. A journey of love and companionship that spanned nearly six decades, they made their home in Wichita, Kansas, before returning to Coffeyville in 1978. Debbie's professional journey saw her serve as the assistant secretary at Garfield Elementary School in Coffeyville for twenty years. Here, her compassionate nature and generous spirit had a profound impact on the lives of students and staff alike.

 

When not at work, Debbie found joy in the simple pleasures of life - cooking delectable meals and shopping. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society, offering her time and energy to the service of her community.

 

Her legacy of love and generosity continues in the lives of her cherished husband, Orville "Jr" Manley, her girls; beloved daughter, Angela Hughes, her adored granddaughters, Sidney (Christian) Jantz and Skyler Hughes, her siblings, Janet Farrell and Randy Mills along with numerous extended family members and close friends. Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Mary Mills.

 

Following Debbie's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 01:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, with Father James Schibi officiating.

Billy "Bill" Ray Hulsey

Billy “Bill” Ray Hulsey, 83, of Coffeyville passed away Monday, June 2, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

 

He was born in Oswego, Kansas, on October 4, 1941, to Lloyd Ray and Mary Elizabeth (Whitaker) Hulsey.  Bill spent his early years and started school in Chetopa, Kansas. In 1953 his family moved to Coffeyville where Bill completed his education, graduating from Field Kindley High School and attending Coffeyville Community College.  He worked with his father at Superior Poultry and Egg until moving to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to work for Phillips Petroleum Company.  He served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

 

On July 31, 1965, he married Claudia Robertson at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage, they made their home in Bartlesville.  In 1969 he returned to the family business in Coffeyville, where they raised their daughters.

 Bill lived a fulfilling life as a devoted family man, successful business owner, and dedicated community member. Bill was a man of many accomplishments. Bill and Claudia were co-owners with his parents of Superior Poultry and Egg Company. In 1967, they opened Coffeyville's first convenience store, Kwik Stop at 809 Elm St. in Coffeyville and formed Superior Foods. The company later purchased George's Cafeteria, which they owned and operated for many years. He was known for his entrepreneurial spirit and his dedication to providing quality service to the community.  Many former employees of George’s remember him fondly as one of their best bosses.

When George’s closed, Bill went back to work as a piping designer and project manager with Service & Technology Corporation in Bartlesville, and later with The Benham Companies in Tulsa.  He retired in 2009.

 

Bill was a member of First Christian Church in Butler, Missouri where his daughter Sharla is pastor. He was also a member in several community clubs and lodges, including the Sertoma Club, the Rotary Club, and Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 AF & AM. His hobbies included traveling, fishing, and gardening, activities that brought him joy and peace. However, what mattered most to Bill was his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

 

He is survived by his wife, Claudia Hulsey, of the home. Bill is also survived by his daughters, Sharla (Michael White) Hulsey and Carrie (Brian Peirce) Lindholm; his brother, Bob (Sam Wheeler) Hulsey; his sisters, Sue Rudziensky and Mary Ann (Richard) Widmer; two grandchildren, Cameron and Jamie Lindholm; and two step-grandchildren, Jacob and Tucker Peirce.

 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mary Hulsey.

 

A memorial service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 613 South Elm Street, Coffeyville, Kansas, with a visitation an hour before the service, and Chaplain Steven Foraker with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating.

Barbara Jean Jordan

Barbara Jean Jordan 96, of Coffeyville, KS went to her heavenly reward Sunday, June 1st, 2025, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center very peacefully with her granddaughter holding her hand. 

 

Barbara was born on April 20, 1929, to Myrl Wayne & Frances Alma (Tole) Thornton in Liberty, Kansas.  She grew up in Liberty, attending school at Liberty then Coffeyville and later in life graduating from Coffeyville Community College with two of her 3 sons. 

 

On April 19th, 1947, she married Howard G. Van Winkle and following their marriage, they made their home in Fredonia and then Coffeyville.  To this union three sons were born, Richard (Dick), Robert (Bob) and Jack.  Unfortunately, Howard was killed in a train accident in 1951. 

 

On December 19th, 1955, she married Albert P. Jordan and they had 51 and a half years of happy marriage until Albert passed away in 2007. 

 

Barbara was very devoted to Jesus Christ her Lord & Savior and a long-time member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Coffeyville.  She was known for being a super prayer warrior and spent hours daily reading her bible and praying for those she loved. 

 

Survivors include one son, Richard (Dick) Van Winkle and wife Elaine, one granddaughter Christine (Chrissy) Johnson and husband, Steve, one great granddaughter Addison Marie Smith, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, one sister-in-law Betty Thornton and many cousins and friends that she considered family. 

 

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Myrl & Frances Thornton, husbands Howard Van Winkle & Albert Jordan, sons Robert & Jack Van Winkle, sisters Shirley (George) Knight, Collene (Vernon) Lackey, brothers Simeon (Beverly) Thornton & Frances (Sue) Thornton. 

 

Visitation for friends and family to sign the guest register will be held between 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025 at David W. Barnes Funeral Home. 

 

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville.  Pastor Matt Friese will officiate.

Eddie Leon O'Neill

Eddie Leon O’Neill, age 67, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Ascension St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

 

Eddie was born on June 9, 1957, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Lawrence “Pat” D. and Darlene Evelyn (Siler) O’Neill.  He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended Field Kindley High School and Bible Baptist Christian School.  Eddie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for a year and half before receiving his honorable discharge. 

 

On May 1, 1982, he was united in marriage to Donna Hoosier in Stanfield, Oregon.  Of this union a son, Patrick Edward O’Neill, was born. 

 

Eddie worked as a water and sewer treatment management operator, first for a potato processing plant in Boardman, Oregon, then in wastewater for the City of Shidler, Oklahoma and for the City of Clinton, Oklahoma.  Eddie furthered his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in teaching.  He spent a year working for the Department of Defense in Atsugi, Japan on the Naval and Airforce Base as a teacher.  Upon returning to Coffeyville in 2002 he worked for the Cherryvale school system as a full-time teacher, then as a substitute teacher for USD 445. 

 

Eddie loved his family, and he loved the Lord.  He was a member of the Coffeyville Bible Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee.  Eddie taught Sunday School at the Assembly of God and loved bringing others to know Christ.  Eddie was a member of the Royal Rangers in Oregon, Oklahoma and Kansas where he served as Lead Commander and Regional Commander.  Eddie enjoyed spending his time outdoors, he loved nature and was an avid survivalist.  He liked to go camping, hunting, fishing, repelling, target practice, and traveling all over to see the gifts nature had to offer.  He and Donna spent several years as camp hosts at Twin Lakes in Pendleton, South Carolina and Watsadler in Hartwell, Georgia.  He loved spending time surrounded by his family and friends and will be fondly remembered for telling jokes and making people laugh. 

 

Surviving to honor his memory is his loving wife, Donna O’Neill of the home; son, Patrick O’Neill and wife, Casey O’Neill of Anderson, South Carolina; granddaughter, Hannah Grace “Gracie” O’Neill; sisters, Alice Long, Peggy Wieneke and husband, Dennis all of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Patty Long and husband, Randy of Old Mill Town, Georgia; sister-in-law, Connie Rosewall of Dixon, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Ellen Jackson of Coffeyville, Kansas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Darlene O’Neill; father-in-law, Virgil Ollie Hoosier; brother-in-law, Rick Long; brother-in-law, Kenneth Rosewall and nephew, Daniel Long. 

 

Following Eddie’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.

 

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Coffeyville Bible Baptist Church.  Pastor Daniel Knight will officiate.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later time in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville.

Elmer Diver

Elmer Diver, 88, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Medicalodges Independence.

 

He was born on February 6, 1937, in Yates Center, Kansas to Leo H. "Dick" and Opal Mae (Bryant) Diver. Elmer grew up and attended school in Yates Center graduating from Yates Center High School in 1955.

 

He joined the U.S. Marine Corp on February 4, 1959, serving until receiving his honorable discharge on February 2, 1962.

 

On June 11, 1960, he married the love of his life, Judith "Judy" Ann Yohon at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Humboldt, Kansas. Following their marriage, they lived in California where Elmer was stationed with the Marine Corp. After his discharge they navigated the adventures of life together, including a memorable year when Elmer's work as a welder building water towers saw the family moving 13 times. Their bond and resilience were a testament to their love and commitment.

 

Elmer spent 62 years as a resident of Coffeyville, Kansas, where he worked 33 years as a Boilermaker/Welder at the Cooperative Refinery, now known as Coffeyville Resources, until his retirement. His work was a source of pride and fulfillment, but his heart was truly with his family and his land. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, raising cattle, and farming.

 

He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #991, the Boilermakers Union #83, and the American Legion Post #20. He also served on the Board of Directors at Cooperative Credit Union and the Rural Water District Board. Despite his many roles and responsibilities, nothing mattered more to Elmer than spending quality time with his family, especially his treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Elmer is survived by his wife, Judy of the home; his children, Casey Diver of Yates Center, Kansas, Tracy (Paula) Diver of Wellington, Kansas, Randy (Marcy) Diver of Independence, Kansas, Theresa (Mike) Kuffler of Newkirk, Oklahoma, and David (Julie) Diver of Reno, Nevada; and his brother, Eldon Diver of El Dorado, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Kimberly (Thomas) Chambers, Michelle (Josh) Stringer, Amy (Nathan) Butler, Clint Diver, Corey Diver, John (Nicole) Kuffler, Tommy Kuffler, Luke (Jordan) Kuffler, Sarah (Tony) Oshakuade, Amanda Diver, and Emily Diver; and eight great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo "Dick" and Opal Diver; his siblings, Frances Diver, Betty Wright, Everett Diver, Delbert Diver, and John Diver; and his grandson, Tyson Diver.

 

Friends may call on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville

 

A Rosary Vigil Service followed by family visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church, 408 S. Willow St. in Coffeyville.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville with Father James Schibi officiating. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Owl Creek Catholic Cemetery east of Yates Center, KS with military honors conducted by the U.S. Marine Corp and Boestler-May, Post No. 170, American Legion of Chanute.
