Neodesha Wins Game of The Week

Our High School Game of The Week was held at Neodesha High School last night as the Bluestreaks hosted Tri-Valley foe out of Fredonia High School the Fredonia Yellowjackets. From the start it was a back and forth between these two teams though Neodesha was able to stretch out into the lead before the half. The gap was all they needed, though the end of the game did not come without a big push from the Yellowjackets. Fredonia did give a good effort to make a come back but ran out of time and could not complete the come back. Neodesha gets the home win by a score of 53 to 45.

Our next High School Game of The Week will be the first Tuesday in February on Tuesday the 5th. We travel out to West Elk as the Patriots host Sedan on Greatest Hits 104.1 KGGF FM.

Weekend Sweep of Neosho County

A quick recap of Red Raven Basketball from over the weekend as both teams hosted the Neosho County Panthers out of Chanute Kansas.

The Lady Red Ravens kicked off the night with a very competitive battle, both teams came in well under .500 and played very hard to try and get out of bottom of the eastern standings. At the half it was 33 to 30 Coffeyville after putting up a strong 2nd quarter giving them the momentum they would need. A competitive 3rd an 4th quarter we’re close but ultimately won by the Red Ravens as the ladies scored well as a team shooting 45% from the floor. Putting 4 players in double digits with the leading scorer at 21 being Tatiana McCree. Ladies get their 4th win on the season at home 80 to 69 over Neosho.

The men’s side of things was a one-sided affair throughout the game. Coffeyville exploded in the first half shooting 77% from the floor, 60% from 3-point land and nearly 80% from the line. A prolific stat sheet saw a huge lead at the half for the Ravens as they were up in the Panthers 67 to 31. The second half was a true test of stamina and reliance for the Red ravens. Being up so much it can be difficult to stay motivated though Coffeyville did everything they needed and more to complete the blow out win. 5 players we’re in double digits with Marvin Johnson and Keon Queen both with 18. The team finishes above 50% in every shooting category and wins handily 117 to 77.

Next game for the Red Ravens is back at home this weekend against Butler. Butler is a top tier team in both women’s and men’s eastern standings, and will prove to be a test for both Red Raven squads. The ladies will tip off first at 5PM followed by the men’s around 7. We will cover both games on your home for Red Raven Basketball FM 98.1 KUSN

Nado Split in 2nd Matchup with Indy

In the second of three matchups with the Independence Bulldogs the Golden Tornado girls would fall 53-36, but the Nado boys pull out the victory 53-51. The boys got down by as much as 12 in the first half but would climb their way back with a victory. The Coffeyville boys have evened up the season series with their rivals 1-1.

FKHS Girls head to Jay, OK on Thursday to take on Kansas, OK in the Jay tournament and the Nado boys are off until February 1st when the host Independence again.

Lady Red Ravens Notch Impressive Win at Home

Not to be over shadowed by the big record-breaking win for head coach of the men’s basketball team Jay Herkelman, the Lady Red Ravens played an incredible game, putting forth their best four quarters at home all year.

Hosting the Lady Red Devils from Allen County in the first part of the double header, as they came into the game with a very similar 3-16 record and one place behind Coffeyville in the Eastern Jayhawk Conference standings at 1-7. An even ball game through the first half was led the way by sophomore Tatiana McCree who had 11 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists through 2 quarters as Coffeyville had Allen by 7 at the half 36 to 29. Coffeyville, who has been known to struggle in the 3rd quarter, came out of the locker room with energy and put a big spot on Allen County scoring 29 points in the third and keeping the Lady Red Devils to only 10. With a sizable lead heading into the final quarter, A.C.C. came out strong and gave their best effort, but great shooting, and solid clock management by the ladies and head coach Harrel was to much for the come back as Coffeyville cruises to victory 89 to 63 riding off of that huge 3rd quarter. McCree led the way in scoring with 19 points, though 2 other Lady Red Ravens found double digits, as Jayleen Cole scores six 3’s for 18 points and Riana Brown had 14. Red Ravens shoot over 50% from the floor and from 3-point land in the impressive win.

Red Ravens travel this Tuesday to their foes up the road for the Montgomery County Showdown against the Independence Community College Pirates. We’ll carry that game on your home for Red Raven sports FM 98.1 KUSN. Pre-game 5:45, with a later tip off than usual starting at  6PM from I.C.C.

Red Ravens Sweep Dodge City

The Coffeyville Red Ravens returned to their home court this afternoon for the first time in 2019. Both men’s and women’s teams hosted the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors. The men came into this game at 3-0 early through 2019 and 15 and 2 throughout the whole year. The ladies are 1-1 in 2019 and currently 2 and 14 entering the game as they got the afternoon kicked off first. From the beginning it was a defensive battle as both teams had many takeaways but both struggled to hit from the floor. Second quarter struggles continued from the floor as both teams finished just 20% shooting, though the lady Red Ravens led 28-22 at the half. In the third quarter Dodge City looked refreshed and gained momentum but was quickly given up by CCC’s ability to take the ball away. An intense 4th quarter saw 3 lead changes and few very important free throws for Coffeyville, which they were able to hit. Late game strategy and forcing turnovers give the ladies another win and an impressive one at that as they win 55 to 49 to start the double header off on the right foot.

The men played directly after the women’s game, coming in winners of 3 of their last 4 and happy to be back on their home court. You’d think intensity and energy would be on the Red Ravens side though it was Dodge City that came out and surprised everyone, using their speed to break the press, and knocking down an unusual amount of 3s giving themselves a significant distance between them and CCC, and at one point led by 9 points through the first half. After giving up 30 points in the first ten minutes, coach Herkleman rallied the guys with a timeout demanding better defense. Which is exactly what they did, only allowing 8 more point to be scored by Dodge City and hitting timely free throws gave Coffeyville the lead before half by a score of 44 to 40. By the time the second half came around Coffeyville’s offense turned on the jets and gave themselves a decent lead through the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half which they then coasted to victory on. 4 players scored in double digits as the Red Ravens win their 4th straight by a score of 108 to 80 finishing the sweep of Dodge City.

That moves coach Herk to now just 3 games away from being the winningest head coach in region 6 history and Coffeyville to 16 and 2 on the year. Busy week next week starting on Monday as both Men and women teams will host Cowley College on Monday on Jay Herkleman court at Nellis Hall.

Pittsburg Clean Sweep of Nado

The Dragon boys get the 55-52 win to move 8-0. Nado fall to 4-4. Fouls were a big issue for Coffeyville. Dispite the loss FKHS played what might have been their most complete game this season. Next up the Nado have the Chanute tournament starting Thursday.

Pittsburg girls get their first win beating Coffeyville 48-36 Coffeyville falls to 1-7 the Nado girls get a week off and then they’ll head to Oklahoma the following week for the Jay tournament.

Ravens Split in Colby: Coach Herk 4 Games Away

The Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens were back in action last night out in Colby Kansas against Colby Community College. Both the men's and women's teams played starting with the women who are coming off a big win last week against N.O.C. Tonkawa.

The women kicked off the night with a very competitive battle throughout the game. C.C.C. a team that doesn’t score much and relies on their defense to keep them in games, did just that. Only allowing 59 points against the Lady Trojans but that was still not enough as they did not close the gap late in the game. A few fouls and a handful of missed baskets disallowed the ladies to complete a comeback as they get beat 59 to 51 to start the night.

The men followed with a late tip off after a long day of travel facing off against the Trojans, hoping to split the series down the middle. Trojans came into the night at 8 and 6 as a team that can score quickly and efficiently just like Coffeyville but could they defend against the Red Ravens? In a game that was not a blowout but never really that close the Red Ravens held an early lead and coasted to yet another victory after making clutch baskets, playing great defense and stopping any sort of momentum Colby tried to gain. A solid win for the men as they win by a score of 88 to 70 and are now 15 and 2 on the year moving head coach Jay Herkelman to 4 games from being the winiest head coach in region 6 history.
