Red Raven men's basketball gets another season underway, hosting Southwestern JV at Nellis Hall tomorrow night.

Coffeyville went 23-9 last season, finishing second in the conference, but fell short to Barton in the region semifinals. The program has four returners from last season's team in all-conference forwards Rashid Kuta and Daniel Nttambwe, and guards Konstantin Popovic and Kaason Thomas.

Jay Herkelman begins his 31st season as head coach of the Ravens. He says he's very excited about the depth the team has down low.

The Ravens hope to play every member of the roster in this weekend's opener. Herkelman says it's the first opportunity to stand out on the court.

Coverage of CCC and Southwestern JV begins tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CT on both US 98 and the Red Raven Sports Network.

Head coach Tony Turner enters his seventh season as head coach, having never had a losing season in his time in Coffeyville. He says this year's group plays a fearless brand of basketball.

CCC intends to play every member of the roster in this weekend's opener, building chemistry and experience at the college level. Turner says he has a few goals for tomorrow's opener.

Raven Profile: Daniel Ntambwe

Red Raven basketball opens the season at Nellis Hall tomorrow night, and KGGF continues the player profile series with returning sophomore wing Daniel Ntambwe.

Ntambwe played in all 32 games for the Ravens in his freshman season, with 25 starts, and averaged 8.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, finishing as a Top 3 rebounder in the KJCCC.

Both Ntambwe and Rashid Kuta participated in the JA48 showcase this summer, which is one of the top junior college basketball events in the nation. Ntambwe says that was a great opportunity to test his skill.

The Red Ravens are viewed as conference title contenders once again this season, and open the year in the national rankings. Ntambwe says he is encouraged by the competitive nature of this year's roster.

Ntambwe scored a career-high 15 points in games against both Barton and Independence last season. Daniel and the Ravens open the season tomorrow night at Nellis Hall against Southwestern JV.

Raven Profile: Aubrey Hishaw

The Lady Ravens came up short in the Region VI championship game in March, losing to Dodge City and missing out on the National Tournament. Hishaw says the returners are motivated to finish the job this time.

Hishaw scored a career-high 16 points in a win over NEO last season, and posted 14 points in wins over Cowley, Seward County, Hutchinson, and Garden City. Aubrey and the Ravens open the season tomorrow night against Bethany JV.

Bullpups Back To Basics In Week 9 Win Against Galena

The Caney Valley Bullpups advance in Week 9 action by taking care of the Galena Bulldogs 44-12 at Caney Memorial Stadium.

The Caney defense held on to a "bend but don't break" mentality throughout the 1st half, giving up yards but only giving up one touchdown in the 2nd quarter; a touchdown pass from QB Chase Cottrell to tight end Isaiah Farfan. Galena would score their 2nd TD late in the 4th quarter.

Wet field conditions caused problems for both teams, including the Bullpups, as they turned the ball over twice in the 1st half, including a bad exchange on the 3-yard line.

It was back to basics for the Pups in the 2nd half, as the O-Line was able to provide great blocks, leading to big runs by Traxcyn Garton, Jace Buckley, and sophomore Konner Paulie.

Caney, 8-1 on the season, will host the regional round of the playoffs next Friday against Riverton or Cherryvale.

Nado Head to Eudora for Week 9

Field Kindley wrapped up the regular season with a 48-6 loss to Fort Scott. Despite the loss the Nado were able to find the endzone ending their 27 straight scoreless quarters streak on a Kobi Kirk 14 yard touchdown run.

Coffeyville now heads on the road to face number one seed Eudora. Head Coach Deonta Wade says this reminds him off their playoff matchup with KC Piper his second year here.

The Nado finished the season 0-8 and the 16 seed, with Eudora finishing 7-1 and the one seed. Pregame starts at 6:45pm and kickoff is at 7:00pm on Sonshine 98.9 KQQF.

Thomas appeared in 25 games in his freshman season, averaging 3.7 points per game, and leading the team in free throw percentage. He says he's been working on his technique on the defensive end this offseason.

The Red Ravens have high expectations this season, being projected to win the KJCCC and beginning the season ranked in the Top 10 in the nation. Thomas says this year's group doesn't take any days off.

Thomas scored a career-high 17 points in a win over Southwestern JV last season, and scored 15 in a win over Cloud County. Kaason and the Ravens open the season on Saturday night at 7 p.m. CT from Nellis Hall.

Raven Profile: Hallie Kitchen

The season opener for the Lady Ravens is just two days away, and KGGF continues the player profile series with returning sophomore guard Hallie Kitchen.

Kitchen appeared in 31 games as a freshman, including 20 starts, where she averaged 4.9 points per game shooting 40% from the field. She says she's been working on taking a step forward on the offensive end this season.

The Broken Arrow product joins fellow returner Karliey Parker to reunite the backcourt that led the Ravens to a Region VI title game appearance. Kitchen says she's looking forward to another season with Parker.

Kitchen scored a career-high 13 points in a pair of games last season, against Dodge City and Cloud County. Hallie and the Lady Ravens open the season on Saturday night at 5 p.m. CT against Bethany JV.

Raven Football Set for Final Home Game

Red Raven football plays in front of the home fans one final time in the 2025 season, hosting the Ellsworth Panthers on Saturday afternoon.

The Ravens are looking to get back in the win column, after a 31-0 defeat to the Hutchinson Blue Dragons last Saturday night. The Panthers enter the matchup with a 3-5 record, and wins over both Highland and Dodge City.

CCC Head Coach Nick Dobler says Ellsworth is progressing as a program.

It will be sophomore day for the Red Ravens, as well as Veterans Appreciation Day. Dobler says it's an opportunity to make one last memory at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Coverage of Coffeyville and Ellsworth begins Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT with kickoff at 1 on both US 98 and the Red Raven Sports Network.

Caney Bullpups Face Familiar Opponent In Week 9 Football Action

History repeats itself tonight in Caney as the Galena Bulldogs come to town for week 9 action, but the consequences of a loss are far different than two weeks ago. Caney defeated the Dogs two weeks ago 48-6, but a loss tonight ends the season for either team.

Coach Criss David says the schedule says week 9, but the Bullpup mindset says it's a brand new season.

Davis credits the defense for their in-game adjustments against Riverton last week, saying that aspect of the ball makes it easier to stop an opposing team's offense.

Jace Buckley and Traxcyn Garton rushed for 259 yards and 2 TDs against the Bulldogs two weeks ago; they'll look to replicate that performance tonight.

Pregame starts around 6:20, with kickoff at 7:00 on PupNation on YouTube and U-S 98.

The winner of this game will face the winner of Cherryvale / Riverton.

Raven Profile: Konstantin Popovic

Red Raven men's basketball returns to the court this weekend, and KGGF continues the player profile series with returning sophomore guard Konstantin Popovic.

He says he's been working hard to develop his game ahead of his sophomore year.

The Ravens open the season as the No. 8 team in the nation, and are the preseason favorites to win the KJCCC league championship. Popovic says the guys in the locker room have even higher expectations.

Konstantin scored 15 points in a game twice last season, and had a career-high 16 points in a win over Independence in January. Popovic and the Red Ravens open the season Saturday night at Nellis Hall.

Raven Profile: Bella Pehrson

Lady Raven basketball tips off the regular season on Saturday, and KGGF continues the player profile series with sophomore transfer Bella Pehrson.

Pehrson is a 6-foot guard who transfers from Northwestern Oklahoma State, where she appeared in 14 games as a freshman. She says Coffeyville gave her a fresh start with some familiar faces.

The sophomore joins a roster that features a relatively experienced group, with many players either returners to Coffeyville or transfers with college basketball experience. Pehrson says the team's energy has stood out so far as well.

Pehrson will be among the top 3-point shooters on the team this season, and also plays strong defense at multiple positions. Bella and the Lady Ravens tip off the season on Saturday night at Nellis Hall.

Bulldogs Prepare for Buhler

Independence High School ends the regular season with a 35-12 loss to Rose Hill. Head Coach Kendall Fiscus says the Rockets ended the season playing really well.

The Bulldogs finished the season 3-5 and the 11th seed in the 4A West bracket. They face the 6 seed Buhler, who is 5-3. Coach Fiscus says their balanced style of play should help in their matchup with the Crusaders.

The winner of the IHS and Buhler matchup will face the winner of the 3 seed Wamego and the 14 seed Winfield.

Raven Profile: Jeremiah Ibeziako

Red Raven men's basketball tips off a new season this weekend, and KGGF continues the player profile series with freshman forward Jeremiah Ibeziako.

Ibeziako is a 6-foot-8 forward from Nigeria, but played his high school ball at the Taft School in Connecticut. He says he was impressed by the Hall of Fame coach Jay Herkelman.

The forward brings elite strength and athleticism to the Raven frontcourt, joining a group that features returners Rashid Kuta and Daniel Ntambwe. Ibeziako says he's already very close with the two Raven sophomore stars.

Ibeziako is expected to make an immediate impact off the bench for Coffeyville, and be one of the top freshman forwards in the KJCCC. Jeremiah and the Red Ravens open the season with Southwestern JV at Nellis Hall on Saturday night.

Raven Profile: Carly Dameron

Lady Raven basketball tips off this weekend, and KGGF continues the player profile series with sophomore transfer Carly Dameron.

Dameron is a transfer from Hutchinson Community College, where she appeared in 14 games as a true freshman. She says the culture of CCC stood out early.

The forward brings strong size to the roster at 6-foot-2, and features an impressive jump shot and mobility in the post. She says the team has put an emphasis on communication early this season.

Dameron is from Goddard-Eisenhower, where she was a two-time all-league selection for the Lady Tigers, and averaged 14.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. Carly and the Lady Ravens tip off the season against Bethany JV at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday.

Raven Football Down Three Spots in Rankings

Red Raven football drops three spots in the national rankings, following a 31-0 loss to Hutchinson on Saturday night.

Tight end Travis Kelce finished with six catches for 99 yards and a touchdown, the touchdown being the 83rd of his career, which ties Priest Holmes for the most in franchise history.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes says Kelce is one of the franchise's true icons.

Kelce and Mahomes are just the third quarterback-tight end duo in league history to combine for 75 touchdowns, joining Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, and Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates.

Kansas City is 5-3 on the season, and travel to Buffalo to battle the Bills on Sunday.

Wildcats Run Away with Sunflower Showdown

The Kansas State Wildcats played their most complete game of the 2025 season, routing the rival Kansas Jayhawks 42-17 in the Sunflower Showdown in Lawrence.

Junior quarterback Avery Johnson rose to the occasion, scoring four total touchdowns with 250 total yards. Wide receiver Jayce Brown had 160 yards in the win as well.

Freshman point guard Tyson Tucker arrives in Coffeyville with high expectations, after spending time with the Bakken Bears in the Denmark basketball league. He says he had an immediate connection with the Raven coaching staff.

Jay Herkelman's squad boasts a mix of talented freshmen and experienced newcomers, leading to the team being projected as the preseason conference champion. Tucker says this team will play with speed, skill, and intensity.

Tucker scored a career-high 14 points with five assists in 18 minutes played, in a victory over Team Fog Naestved earlier this year. Tyson and the Ravens open the season on Saturday night at Nellis Hall.

Raven Profile: Sh'Ryah Wright

Lady Raven basketball tips off this weekend, and KGGF will be releasing player profiles all week long to introduce key members of the 2025-26 team.

Sophomore forward Sh'Ryah Wright transfers to Coffeyville from State Fair Community College, where she was Second-Team All-Region, averaging eight points and five rebounds per game. She says the Raven culture was enticing for her in the portal.

Wright is one of many newcomers to the roster, who are led by a trio of returners in Hallie Kitchen, Karliey Parker, and Aubrey Hishaw. Wright says those three have embraced a leadership role.

Wright is from Kansas City, Missouri, and appeared in 30 games as a freshman last season. She scored a career-high 17 points in a win over Three Rivers Community College in March, and posted a career-high 14 rebounds in a loss to Crowder.

Raven Offense Struggles in Loss to Hutchinson

A sloppy forecast in Hutchinson turned into a sloppy evening for the Red Ravens on the football field, struggling to get anything going in a 31-0 loss to the Blue Dragons.

Coffeyville ran 70 total offensive plays, but averaged just 2.3 yards per play, finishing with a total of 159 yards on the evening. Hutchinson was held to 339 yards, well below their season average, but averaged 5.3 yards per play.

The Blue Dragons forced three turnovers, recovering two fumbles and returning one for a touchdown, and forcing the first interception of the season from quarterback Mac Armstrong. The Hutchinson defense also generated pressure, finishing with five sacks on the evening.

The Red Ravens will aim to get back on track as the season enters the final month, returning home to face Ellsworth on Saturday afternoon. CCC has two conference games remaining, against Dodge City and Independence, which both take place in mid-November.

Davis says having an extra coach on the field is an advantage, especially when that coach is junior quarterback Layne Denny.

Both CCC and Hutchinson rank among the KJCCC leaders in a number of stats on offense and defense. Dobler says this matchup will come down to execution.

South Coffeyville has played well on the defensive end as well, with three takeaways in last week's win over Cornerstone Christian. The team now returns home to face 4-3 Bluejacket, in a crucial district game.

Geisen says this matchup will be a great test for the program.

Head Coach David Pitts says the program has their eyes on the next couple seasons as well.
