Momentum continues to build for Red Raven basketball, with the teams completing a doubleheader sweep of the conference rival Barton Cougars on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Ravens used a strong first quarter to cruise to a 67-45 win in the opener. CCC improves to 9-1 on the season, and 3-1 in conference play. Head Coach Tony Turner says he's proud of the way the team competed against a tough opponent.
Karliey Parker scored a game-high 19 points, while Parker, Aubrey Hishaw, and Esme Smith all posted double-doubles for Coffeyville. Turner says the effort on the glass is making this team better.
The men's team earned a bit of payback for last season's postseason loss to Barton, beating the Cougars 84-77 to move into a tie for second in the conference. Jack Sorrell had 21 points off the bench, while Konstantin Popovic finished with a career-high 20 points. Sorrell says he's always looking for ways to help the team win.
Sorrell finished with four 3-pointers, a pair of steals, and numerous scores around the rim to ignite the offense. Assistant Coach Jordan Bailey says the freshman's impact is felt every single game.
Both Red Raven teams sit in the Top 3 in the KJCCC standings, and travel to Arkansas City to battle the Cowley Tigers on Wednesday night.
