Both the CCC men and women's basketball teams got back into the win column on Saturday, with the women defeating Northwest Kansas Tech 54-51 and the men doing the same at 99-64.

The women's game came first, and was an overall chaotic affair, with the two teams combining for 54 turnovers. However, Coffeyville was able to take control of the matchup long enough to build a 12-point lead with a few minutes to play. Things wouldn't be easy, though, as the Lady Mavericks were able to get the game back to within 1-point before Alana Kramer sealed the game for good with a couple of free throws. Tynica Gilmore led all Lady Ravens scorers with 14 points and going a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line.

The men's contest would not be as close. Although Northwest Tech would take an early lead, soon it would become apparent that Coffeyville was just too good offensively for the Mavericks to handle. The Red Ravens had 5 players score in double figures, including leading scorer Manny Crump, who finished with 17 points but came out late in the game with an injury to his foot. Coffeyville also showed mental toughness and played clean basketball, getting multiple opportunites at the line while the Mavericks picked up several technical fouls and even had a player ejected early in the second half.

The women improve to 11-1 and 1-1 in Jayhawk Conference play, while the men improve to 9-3 and 1-1 themselves. Both teams will travel to Great Bend next Wednesday for a meeting with Barton County CC, a team many predicted to win the western half of the Jayhawk Conference.

There wasn't much resistance as the Coffeyville men's basketball team claimed its eighth victory of the season Friday night, defeating the Bethany JV 108-69. Coffeyville took the lead early and never let go, relying on several scorers throughout the night to cross the triple digit line. Meikkel Murray led all Red Ravens scorers with 22, including a thrilling alley-oop and another posterizing slam over a Bethany defender. For the Swedes, James Harrison led all scorers with 23 points, while Jalen Behr added 21 of his own.

Despite the nearly 40-point victory, Coach Jay Herkelman said the team would need to step it up in the coming weeks if the team is to succeed throughout conference play. The men will be back in action next week, traveling to Hutchinson to face a currently undefeated Hutchinson CC team.

The Coffeyville Red Ravens Volleyball team quest for a threepeat falls just short. The semifinals matchup between Scottsdale and Coffeyville ends with the Artichokes on top 3-2. 
 

Coffeyville will take on the Cinderella story twelve seed Bismarck State in the third place game tomorrow at 2:00.  

The Coffeyville Red Ravens Volleyball team had a close matchup in their first set agianst the ten seed Grand Rapids winning 29-27.  They would follow that up with 25-15 and 25-20 wins in sets two and three.  Leading the way for the Red Ravens was Faith Simpson and freshman Zoey Schmidt both with 9 kills, sophomore's Seliann Concepcion and Erianna Murray both had 8 kills and sophomore Destiny Thomas helped out with 7 kills in the match.

The path to the threepeat for the Red Ravens continues tomorrow as they take on the three seed Scottsdale in the semifinals at 5:30.  Scottsdale has also won both of their matches 3-0.

Students and faculty gathered around the Coffeyville Community College Library for a watch party for the Red Ravens Volleyball team's first round matchup of the NJCAA Division II tournament. Two Seed Coffeyville got out to a strong start against the fifteen seed Montgomery winning the first set 25-8, then took the second set 25-10 before finishing the sweep off with a 25-17 victory. 

The 3-0 win advances the Ravens to the next round where the face the ten seed Grand Rapids,also coming off a 3-0 sweep, this afternoon at 4:30.

Independence Community College heads across the county line to take on Labette Community College in Parsons. Despite the late fourth quarter comeback out scoring the Cardinals 26-8 the Pirates fall to 2-4 on the season with a 58-57 loss. Turnovers were what got ICC into the most trouble with 18 in the first half and 25 for the game. The Pirates had a chance for the win with 9 secs left but couldn't get the shot to go. 
 

ICC takes on Evangel University JV at 4:00 this Saturday at home. 

Coffeyville Community College has named Jeff Leiker as the Head Football Coach effective immediately.  Leiker replaces Aaron Flores who spent seven seasons as the Red Ravens head coach and compiled a 45 – 41 record and 4 – 7 this past season. 

Leiker, who has served as CCC’s athletic director since 2007 was the previous Rave ns head football coach and also served as head coach for the 2017 season when Flores underwent a lung transplant.

Leiker compiled a 56 – 27 record and led the Red Ravens to six bowls in his previous stint as the Ravens head coach.

The Coffeyville Community College Men’s basketball team lost their second game of the season when they fell on the road last night 70 – 68 to Indian Hills Community College in Iowa.  The Ravens are now 6 – 2 on the season.  The Lady Ravens continued their winning ways however improving to 8 0 on the season after defeating Eastern Oklahoma State College at home Saturday afternoon 74 – 70..

Meanwhile the Independence Community College Men defeated Marshalltown in Iowa last night 88 – 57.  The Pirates are now 6 – 1 on the season.  In another area basketball game Saturday the Labette County Community College Men fell to Cowley County 97 – 79.

The Coffeyville women's basketball team overcame yet another obstacle on Saturday, defeating Eastern Oklahoma State 74-70. The Red Ravens came out of the gate slowly, letting the Mountaineers build up an 11-point lead midway through the first quarter. However, Coffeyville would fight back, especially through the offensive efforts of Alana Kramer, making her first start this season. Kramer would finish with 17 points, the most of any Red Raven.

Taking a 6-point lead into the half, Coffeyville would storm out to a 16-point lead. But the Mountaineers, much like Coffeyville in the first half, would find a second wind and get back within 3 with a minute to play. Coffeyville would find the stops they needed, though, and ended EOSC's chances with a free throw with 6.1 seconds left. Besides Kramer, other Red Ravens in double digits included Tynica Gilmore with 15 and Kailyn Lay with 10.

Following the victory, the Red Raven women improve to 8-0 this season. The women will next take on Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa.

Field Kindley High School is looking to fill a couple of coaching positions. USD 445 is looking for an assistant baseball coach, an assistant softball coach, and a head boys tennis coach. The Coffeyville men's and women's basketball teams once again swept their doubleheader Tuesday night, with the women defeating Bethany JV 61-41 and the men defeating Eastern Oklahoma State 93-59.

The women's contest was most notable for output provided by the Coffeyville bench. Leading scorers McKenzie Murrel-Patton and Ania Markowska combined for just three points, but Julia Calafell and Kristi Stephens scored 15 and 10 respectively to keep the scoring going. The Red Ravens scored 46 of their 61 points from the bench, with Brooklyn Wade adding 9 and Alana Kramer adding 6 more. Coffeyville also held the Swedes to just 2/19 shooting from the field in the second half, giving up just 9 points total. The women improve to 7-0 this season and will next take the court Saturday as they host Eastern Oklahoma State.

Speaking of Eastern Oklahoma State, the Coffeyville men played a brilliant defensive game, holding a Moutaineers team that averaged 103 points per game coming into the contest to just 59. After the Mountaineers flexed their three-point shooting skills early, Coffeyville adjusted its defense and held EOSC to just 1/17 shooting from beyond the arc. Meikkel Murray led all scorers with 21, while Tylor Perry scored 20 points off of the bench. Other double digit scorers included Manny Crump with 12, Tony Hutson with 10 and Jalen Smith with 10. The men, now 5-1 this season, will head to Iowa this weekend for the Indian Hills CC Classic. They will play some tough opponents in Southeastern CC on Friday and Indian Hills CC on Saturday. 

The 2019 NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship bracket has been released and the #2 Seed Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens (39-2) will matchup with #15 seed Montgomery (21-5) in the first round at 10:00am on November 21st.

The Red Ravens lead by Coach Delice Downing look to make it a 3 peat as they are the reigning 2017 and 2018 NJCAA Div II National Volleyball Champions.

The Coffeyville Community College volleyball team took care of business on Saturday, defeating both Kansas City Kansas and Johnson County to twin the NJCAA Plains District A Championship. The Red Ravens dropped just one set across the two matches, defeating KCK in the semi-finals 3-1 and Johnson County 3-0 in the finals.

Coffeyville will be returning to the NJCAA Div II National Volleyball Tournament, held this year in Charleston, West Virginia from November 21st to 23rd. The two-time defending National Champions will try to make it three in a row against some of the best college volleyball teams across the country.

With Butler defeating Garden City 34-27 on Saturday, the Indepdence Community College football team has clinched the Jayhawk Conference championship. The Pirates now stand alone at a 6-1 mark, with three teams (Butler, Garden City and Hutchinson) one game off at 5-2. The Pirates will now await word on whether they have received a bowl invitation or not.

Independence defeated Ellsworth 50-3 on Saturday in a non-conference game.

The Coffeyville men's basketball team notched another win Saturday night, defeating Minnesota Prep 68-55. The Red Ravens took a three-point lead into the locker room, and despite some trouble with giving up the three-pointer in the first half, completely locked down a Minnesota Prep team that showed a preference for the long-rang shot. Minnesota shot 0-11 from 3-point range in the second half, allowing Coffeyville to cruise out to a comfortable lead.

Also of note were the amount of fouls called across Saturday night's game. Minnesota Prep picked up 27 fouls, including 3 technicals. Head coach Tedkye Belifield was ejected from the game with minutes to go in the second half, and Minnesota's assistant coach was ejected on Friday. Meikkel Murray took full advantage of these fouls, shooting 13-17 from the free throw line to lead all scorers with 25 points.

The Coffeyville women were also winners on Saturday, improving to 6-0 after a 68-56 victory over Southern Arkansas University Tech.

The Pirates make a statement with two wins on a long road trip to Texas. ICC picked up a 76-71 victory over McLennan and was their second win in as many days going 2-0 on the weekend. The Pirates led by 18 at half and saw their lead get as high as 21 early in the second half. The Highlanders came out swinging the second half to make the game close but ICC came out on top. 
 

The Pirates were led off the bench with 16 points from Ryle Burley and starters Tim Dalger and Sam'i Roe added 14 and 12. ICC returns home to face West Plains, Missouri on Wednesday. 

Long two game road trip to Hillsboro, TX starts with a win against the host school Hill College 84-74. The Pirates started the game in control and were able to get out to a double digit lead early in the first half. The Rebels were able to answer and the cut the lead to four but the Pirates rufused to let it get any closer. That was the story of the game, Hill was able to go on runs to cut into the lead but ICC always had an answer. 
 

Sam'i Roe led all Pirates in scoring with 27 and had a critical four point play that fully swung the momentum into ICC's favor. The Pirates got nice support off the bench from Ryle Burley who added 18. The Pirates take on McLennan, who won their first game 86-60, tomorrow at 1:00 on Star 98.9. 

The Coffeyville men's basketball team couldn't seem to get anything to go its way on Friday, as the Red Ravens  dropped its first game of the season to Kirkwood 74-54. Coffeyville did take control early in the game, leading by as much as 12 in the first half. The Eagles would take a little bit off the lead though just before the half, trailing by just 5.

The defending D2 NJCAA champions were certainly no opponent to be overlooked, and they came out hot after the break, shooting 50% from the field and 50% from beyond the 3-point line. Luke Appel lead all Eagles scorers with 20 points, with Devonte Thedford and DJ Purnell also scoring in the double-digits. For Coffeyville, they were led by Kymani Dunham and Meikkel Murray, who each had 11 points a piece.

Tomorrow, the men's team will once again be in action against Minnesota Prep. A team without a nickname, Minnesota Prep lost 131-70 to Cowley College just before CCC's Friday night tip-off. The game will be broadcast on US98, with Connor Harbit on the call. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

On a more positive note, the Coffeyville women's basketball team started their road trip in dominating fashion. The Red Ravens defeated Hesston College 89-33 to improve to 5-0 this season. Next, the team will take on Southern Arkansas University Tech on Saturday.

The Independence Community Community College Pirates basketball teams split a double header at home last night in a game heard live on KQQF 98.9FM.  In the first game the Lady Pirates fell to Redlands College 65–55.  The Lady Pirates ate now 1–2 on the season.

In the second game the Pirate Men overwhelmed Friends University 101–51.  The Pirates had 5 Players score in double figures led by Cedrick Harris with 24 points.  The Pirate Men are now 2–0 on the season.

Everyone went home happy on Wednesday night, as both the CCC men's and women's basketball teams claimed victory over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on last-second, heart-stopping shots.

The women's contest saw the Red Ravens jump out in front, taking a 9-point lead into the half. However, the Lady Norse would chip away at the lead and eventually take it back at 60-59 with just seconds to go. Coffeyville would get a good look from beyond the three-point line, but the true heroics would come after that shot missed. Ania Markowska would find the offensive rebound and put it back in off the glass to secure a wild 61-60 victory.

The men's game saw the Red Ravens trail for almost the entire game, as the Norsemen shot lights out throughout the first half and carried a 14-point lead into the locker room. The second half would see Coffeyville attempt to play catch up for about 18 minutes, taking advantage of NEO's poor second half shooting and continous turnovers. Coffeyville would tie the game up at 60 with just seconds to play, and much like in the women's game, a potential game-winner was shot from beyond the arc. That shot would bounce off the rim and hang up in the air for a second or two before finally being slammed home by Manny Crump for the 62-60 victory.

Both the men and the women are still undefeated this season, with the women improving to 4-0 and the men at 3-0. The men will next proceed to compete in the Community State Bank Classic in Coffeyville, with games lined up for Friday and Saturday. The women will hit the road to take on Hesston College on Friday and Southern Arkansas University Tech on Saturday.

According to the official Jayhawk Conference standings, Fort Scott Community College has apparently forfeited all of its wins across the 2019 season. The Greyhounds now sit at the bottom of the stands with an 0-9 record.

With the new information, the Independence Community College Pirates have now at least clinched a share of the Jayhawk Conference title and a chance to win it outright. If Garden City loses to Butler this Saturday, then ICC will win the conference. If Garden City wins, both teams will finish at 6-1 and share the title. Independence plays at Ellsworth this weekend and will not add a win or loss to their conference total.

In other news, CCC picks up its fourth win of the season due to the forfeits. Fort Scott defeated the Red Ravens earlier this year, 40-29.

Coffeyville Community College's two basketball teams are off to hot starts this season. The CCC women are 3-0 this year and most recently picked up a 68-60 victory over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa. The men are 2-0 and are coming off of an exciting 82-81 contest versus Iowa Lakes. 

CCC fans will get their first chance to see both teams in action, at home, on the same night this Wednesday as the men and women play a doubleheader against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. The women's game will go first, starting at 5:30 p.m, and the men will follow around 7:30 p.m.

For the first time this season, we will have the game for you to listen along on 98.1, KUSN. Connor Harbit will have the call for the Red Ravens throughout this year's campaign.

The Red Ravens ended their 2019 season on a winning note as they downed the Ellsworth Panthers 30-13. 

Ravens running back Marco Lee not only showed off his running ability by rushing for 101 yards but also showed off his arm by tossing a 67 yard touchdown pass to Jared Miles about halfway through the second quarter.

Ellsworth was lead by quarterback AJ Payne he rushed 19 times for 129 yards and threw for an additional 62 yards.

The Ravens end their season at 3-8 and 1-6 in conference play. Ellsworth concludes their season next week as they will play host to Independence at 7pm.

After holding a lead for most of the first half, the Caney Valley Bullpups surrendered a touchdown with 8 seconds remaining in the first half and could not recover as their season came to end 34-7 at the hands of the Prairie View Buffalos.

Caney Valley got off to a quick start by blocking a punt and driving a short 27 yards down the field capped off by a short touchdown run for Eryk Kaiser  to put the Bullpups up 7-0. The Buffalos proceeded to rip off 34 straight points to bury the Bullpups with their final 21 points being scored in the 2nd half.

Leading the Buffalo attack was Hunter Boone with 161 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown while Otis Jacobs chipped in 119 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown of his own.

The Bullpups were lead by Eryk Kaiser with 66 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown.

The Bullpups end the season with a 5-4 record. The Buffalos move on to host Columbus next week.

The Coffeyville Community College volleyball team will be the hosts of the Division II Volleyball Plains District A Tournament next Saturday. The matches will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Nellis East Gymnasium, with the #1-ranked Red Ravens taking on the #8-ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils. At 1:00 p.m., #5-ranked Johnson County will play against the #4-ranked Cowley squad. The finals will take place one hour after the completion of the second match.

Districts admission will cost $5 for adults and $3 for students from kindergarten to college. Kids under four years old will be admitted for free. CCC students will also be admitted for free with CCC identification.

The Red Ravens finished their regular season with a record of 37-2. CCC has defeated all three of their district opponents this season, dropping one set to Johnson County and sweeping Cowley and KCK.
