A new era of volleyball begins at Independence Community College.

New Head Coach Alex Lehocky comes to ICC from Minot State University, a Division II program out of the NCAA. Lehocky says the talent of the KJCCC was enticing.

Lehocky takes over for Melissa Johnson, who becomes the full time athletic director for the college. Lehocky says it's a unique opportunity to work with an athletic director who is fresh out of coaching.

The Pirates have been a middle of the road team in the KJCCC over the past handful of seasons. Lehocky says she is looking for consistent improvement from the team.

Independence will return multiple starters from last year's team, and began practicing under Lehocky this week.

It was a tough night in Hutchinson for the Red Ravens, as they drop a pair of games to the Blue Dragons.

The Lady Ravens battled, but came up short in a 65-53 defeat. Head coach Tony Turner says the team improved from the first matchup, but still made key mistakes.

Coffeyville committed 22 turnovers and allowed 19 offensive rebounds. Kyleigh Ortiz led the team with 14 points. Bailey Layman had 11.

The Lady Ravens will return home to battle Colby on Saturday. Turner says it's vital to get back on track.

The men also had struggles rebounding in a 79-60 loss. Cris Carroll led the team with 17 points.

Dodge City did lose to Barton, so the Ravens still hold the No. 8 seed by a half game despite the loss.

Coffeyville's final home game of the regular season will be Saturday afternoon at Nelis Hall.

The Fredonia Yellow Jackets look to punch their ticket to the sub state championship game, matching up with the Spartans of Wichita Collegiate.

Fredonia has rattled off 10 wins in their last 12 games, including a 15-point victory over Bluestem in the quarterfinals.

A pair of key leaders for the Yellow Jackets are guards Emmitt Couch and Ashton O'Neill. Head coach Dee Barnett says Couch is one of the best defenders around.

O'Neill played primarily point guard last season, but has moved to more of a shooting guard role this year, with the emergence of Kamden Barnett. Barnett says O'Neill brings great versatility to the offense.

Fredonia is 14-7 after a 5-6 start to the season. The Spartans are 15-5, coming off a win over Douglass in the quarterfinals.

Field Kindley’s season comes to an end after being upset by 10 seed Louisburg 68-58. 

Jake Horner led the Nado with 14 points. Coffeyville finishes the season 13-8. 

The Lady Nado season ended last after a 41-25 loss to Six Seed Baldwin. 

The Red Ravens face one of their biggest challenges of the season, traveling to Hutchinson for a matchup with the Blue Dragons.

The Lady Ravens look to find the win column after a weekend home loss to Dodge City. CCC is currently in fifth place in the conference, and two games behind fourth, which would ensure a first round bye.

Hutchinson is 27-0 and the top team in the nation on the women's side. The team features a combination of high-IQ offense, and swarming defense, that has resulted in the suffocation of opponents all season.

The men look to carry momentum from a big win over Dodge to Hutchinson, matching up with one of the league's top offenses. Coffeyville is currently in eighth place in the KJCCC, holding a spot for a home playoff game by a half game, and just one game behind seventh.

The Dragons erupted for 53 first half points in the first matchup, but Coffeyville found their footing, and outscored Hutch by nine in the second half.

 The Caney Valley Lady Bullpups season came to an end as they fall to the Riverton Lady Rams 47-30 in substate basketball action in Caney. 
 Riverton used a huge second half to pull away, scoring eighteen points in the third quarter and twelve in the fourth to improve their record to 11-10.

 Anna Washburn and Myra Denny scored ten points each for the Lady Bullpups, who ends the season with a 10-11 record. 
 EJ Wells led all scorers with fifteen, followed by Ellie Helms with eleven. Chloe Parker also scored eleven for Riverton, with all her points coming in the second half. 
 Substate action continues at Caney High School Thursday and Friday. 

The Erie Red Devils survive an upset bid, beating Cedarvale/Dexter 46-38 to advance to the 2A sub state semifinals.

A back and forth first quarter saw Erie lead by six, thanks to early threes from Ethan Dillinger and Michael Rickenburg.

The Red Devils would end the first half on a 22-1 run, leading 36-16 at the break.

CVD would continue to fight in the second half, but came up short after senior forward Braydon Henderson fouled out.

Erie improves to 16-5, and will play the winner of Oxford and Cherokee Southeast on Friday night.

Field Kindley girl's basketball season comes to and end.

The Lady Nado fall in the first round of Sub-State 41-25 to the Six Baldwin Bulldogs.  Coach Tyler Coots finishes his first season as a head coach with a record of 9-11.  This is the most wins for the program since the 2014-2015 season.  

The Nado boys face Louisburg in their first-round matchup tomorrow at home tip-off is at 6:00pm.

The Kansas City Royals have won three of their first four spring training games, in large part due to impressive pitching performances from key players.

Cole Ragans, who pitched at an all-star level following a trade to Kansas City last season, struck out five batters in two innings on Sunday. Ragans also reached 100 miles per hour on the radar gun.

In a 6-0 win over the Chicago Cubs yesterday, new pitcher Seth Lugo threw two scoreless innings. He says he still gets nerves despite being an established veteran.

The Royals will be in split squad action today, with Daniel Lynch pitching against the Rockies, and Michael Wacha making his KC debut against the Padres.

An incredible run for the Fredonia Yellow Jackets has culminated with a postseason victory.

Fredonia defeats Leon-Bluestem in the opening round of the sub state playoffs, by a final score of 69-54.

Freshman point guard Kamden Barnett had 25 points to lead the Yellow Jackets. Elias Barnett added 10, and Emmitt Couch had nine for Fredonia.

The Yellow Jackets have used their depth to win 10 of their last 12 games. Head coach Dee Barnett says it's a uniquely deep team.

Fredonia will look to punch their ticket to the championship game, playing Wichita Collegiate in the semifinals on Thursday night.

 The Caney Valley Bullpups basketball season came to an end tonight as they fell to the Galena Bulldogs 55-42 in substate playoff action. 
 Colt Hightower led the Bullpups with thirteen points, while Ben Matthews added seven in the loss, which dropped the Pups to 9-12 on the season. 
 Caney started the season 2-8, but then won seven of the next nine games, before injuries to Layne Denny and Gavin Messner took depth out of the lineup. Colt Hightower proved once again why is considered one of the top players in the state, and Ben Matthews and Payton Darden improved tremendously in the low post as the season went along.
 Zane Turner led all scorers with 19, while Jack Perry added 17 in the win for Galena. 
 The Lady Bullpups will see their first round of the playoffs Tuesday night as they take on Riverton at home. 

Mixed results for the Ravens at Nellis Hall, with the Lady Ravens falling and the men winning against Dodge City.

In the opener, the Lady Ravens fall 70-57. Coffeyville fell behind by 10 points in the second quarter, and could never fully close the gap.

Head coach Tony Turner says the Conquistadors have a lot of basketball IQ.

Ivy Fox led the team with 22 points, with Kyleigh Ortiz adding 10, and Bailey Layman scoring eight.

The men win a massive game for their hopes of hosting a playoff game, beating Dodge 88-76.

The game was tied at halftime, but Coffeyville opened a double digit lead in the final 12 minutes.

Assistant coach Jake Odum says it was a great team performance.

Cris Carroll, who missed all week with illness, had 33 points and 18 rebounds in a massive performance. Odum says it was an incredible effort from the sophomore. Jahni Summers also had 26 points.

The Ravens will head back on the road, for a date with the Hutchinson Blue Dragons on Wednesday.

Field Kindley splits in their final regular season games of the year.

The Lady Nado fell to Labette County 74-44, falling to 9-10 on the season. Taiylor Caron led Coffeyville with 16.

The Nado boys survived in a hard fought matchup with the Grizzlies winning 50-49. Jamarrion Logan had 17 and Zay Logan had 14.

The 11 Seed Lady Nado will head to Six Seed Baldwin on Tuesday with tip-off at 6:00pm.  The Seven Seed Nado are at home against the 10 Seed Louisburg with tip-off at 6:00pm.  Both games with be on Sonshine 98.9.

With Day two of the 4A-1A state wrestling championships in progress, multiple area wrestlers have punched their ticket to the final round.

Independence wresler Kohen Wright was victorious in the 138 pound semifinal, and will wrestle Damon Ingram of Rose Hill for the state championship tomorrow.

Kainen White of Field Kindley drops his semifinal match to Baker North of Bishop Miege. White will wrestle for third place tomorrow.

Cooper Smith and Reyce Booe of Cherryvale, along with Mason Gibbons and Keith Sanders of Independence all advance in respective consolation brackets.

Field Kindley girls wrestler Emma Hall will compete in the 105 pound semifinals, against the top seed, Alissa Cowing of Clay Center. Fredonia wrestler Layla Tindle is the top seed in 115, and wrestles Holly Thatcher in the semifinals.

West Elk wrestler Kayla Wright will battle Zoey Kessler in the consolation bracket this afternoon.

The Kansas City Royals have added more veteran depth to the 2024 roster.

The organization has signed catcher Austin Nola to a one year deal. Nola was released by the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this week following the signing of Gary Sanchez.

Nola has played four seasons in the Major Leagues, and was a fifth round pick in the 2012 draft out of LSU. He is a career .249 hitter with a reputation for being a solid defender.

Nola will compete with returning backup catcher Freddy Fermin for the primary role behind Salvador Perez, but at the least adds needed depth to the organization.

The Ravens return to Nellis Hall for a doubleheader with Dodge City, with both games having major playoff impications.

The Lady Ravens remain in the race for a first-round bye in the postseason, and Dodge City is currently in second place in the KJCCC. The Conquistadors had a historic shooting performance in the first matchup, converting 23 3-point shots and scoring 106 points.

Head coach Tony Turner says he expects a different game this time.

Sophomore point guard Ray Richardson drilled a 3-point shot that gave CCC the lead against Barton. Turner says she has become a crucial piece of the team.

The men are battling for a first round home playoff game, and currently sit a half game back of Dodge City. Head coach Jay Herkelman says this is a huge opportunity for his team.

Freshman Charles Caparaso had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds against Garden City. Herkelman says it was a complete performance.

The Kansas 4A-1A State Wrestling Tournament is underway in Salina. Several athletes made the trip representing Southeast Kansas. Day one of the 4A Boy's Tournament wrapped up early today. KGGF's Sheri Garris was on the scene and provided an update.

On the girl's side of the bracket for 4A, Field Kindley's Emma Hall won both her matches and moved on to the semifinals in the 105 weight class. Semifinals matches will begin tomorrow and then the Championship is on Saturday.

A Kansas City Royals legend and World Series hero has called it a career.

First baseman Eric Hosmer announced his retirement after 13 seasons in the league, including seven with the Royals. Hosmer was the third overall pick out of high school in 2008.

He says he's excited for the next chapter.

Hosmer is notoriously known for scoring the game-winning run in Game 5 of the 2015 World Series, a game that would bring the Royals their second title.

He finishes his career as a .276 hitter with 198 homers and 893 runs batted in.

Redemption is on the mind of a Field Kindley wrestler as he heads back to the state tournament. Nado Senior Kainen White, who finished second as a junior, says being able to return and compete is a great opportunity.

Head Football Coach and Assistant Wrestling Coach Deonta Wade has been an important part of White's life in and out of sports. White says Wade has been a good influence on him.

The State Wrestling Tournament starts tomorrow in Topeka and will go until Saturday. White will compete in the Heavyweight Division. Three other Nado wrestlers, Emma Hall, Brennen Westervelt and Amanie Luten, are heading to the state tournament.

Fredonia has had plenty to be excited about on the basketball court this season, with a senior star annoucing her next chapter.

Forward Zoey Sims has committed to Midland University, an NAIA program in Fremont, Nebraska.

She says Midland stood out early in recruiting.

Sims has played travel basketball, along with her time at Fredonia. She says she has learned from both experiences.

Zoey has accomplished plenty in her high school career. She says her favorite part is the people she enjoyed it with.

Sims also scored her 1,000th career point in last night's loss to Caney.

 The Caney Valley Bullpups split a basketball doubleheader at Fredonia tonight; the Lady Bullpups won 54-47 while the guys were stung 67-64. 
 Anna Washburn led three Lady Bullpups in double figures with 22 points. Sarah Martinez added thirteen and Myra Denny had ten points. 
 Zoey Sims, who scored her 1,000th career point during the game, led all scorers with 26, while Harlee Blackwell added ten for the Lady Yellowjackets. 
 In the nightcap, Ashton O'Neal led all scorers with 22. Eli Barnett had sixteen, while Emmett Couch added 13 for the Yellowjacket victory. 
 Colt Hightower had eighteen points for the Bullpups and Braydon Messner added twelve in the loss. 
 Caney had a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime, but the shot stuck in the back of the rim as time expired.

One of the most notable names on the Lady Ravens the past two seasons has declared where she will continue her college career.

Sophomore Bailey Layman has committed to Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma, following the end of the season.

She says playing somewhere closer to home was important.

Layman suffered a serious injury early in her freshman season, but returned in the second half and emerged as one of the best young shooters in the KJCCC. Despite shifting to the starting lineup for her sophomore campaign, Layman continued to progress, improving as a defender, and all-around scorer, while remaining one of the most lethal outside shooters in the conference.

She has also built a reputation as a clutch player who has converted numerous big shots for the team. She says it's because she plays more relaxed this season.

The Lady Ravens have beaten Butler and Barton in back to back weeks, competing for a first round bye in the postseason. Layman says she thinks the team is turning a corner.

Bailey leads the Lady Ravens averaging 11 points per game this season, and will be a crucial piece to a potential postseason run in the coming weeks.

The final week of the high school regular season has arrived, and there are plenty of key matchups for both boys and girls with major playoff implications.

Field Kindley matches up with Fort Scott, with the Lady Nado in search of their 10th win of the season, and the boys in search of their 12th.

The Caney Bullpups wrap up their regular season on the road against Fredonia, with the girls looking for consecutive victories, and the boys attempting the finish the regular season at .500 after a 2-8 start.

The Neodesha girls are 14-4, and tied with Cheney for the top seed in sub-state. They host the Erie Red Devils. Cherryvale girls are 13-5, one game back of top seed Girard. They host Uniontown.

On the boys side, West Elk and Sedan are deadlocked with a 13-6 record entering the night. The Patriots battle Central Burden, and Sedan takes on Oxford.

The Kansas City Royals make one final move in a very active offseason, acquiring a veteran reliever from the Boston Red Sox.

Kansas City acquires right-handed pitcher John Schreiber from Boston, in exchange for prospect David Sandlin.

Schreiber is 29 years old, and was one of baseball's best bullpen arms in 2022, pitching 65 games with a 2.22 ERA. He wasn't quite as strong last year, posting a 3.86 ERA, but is under control for three more seasons.

Sandlin is a 23-year-old reliever with a strong fastball and splitter, and was an 11th round pick in the 2022 draft. He is projected as a reliever, and could make his MLB debut in 2024.

Schreiber will be a reliable middle inning reliever for the Royals in 2024 as they chase an AL Central crown.

Coffeyville splits a doubleheader with the Barton Cougars at Nellis Hall.

The Lady Ravens earn a massive win to keep their hopes of a first round postseason bye alive, beating Barton 62-42. Following a slow start, CCC gained the lead in the second quarter, and outscored Barton 32-13 in the second half.

Ivy Fox finished with 21 points, Tetona Woods-Blackowl had 11 points and nine assists as well. Head coach Tony Turner says she steps up in big games.

CCC also received important contributions from the second unit, with Ray Richardson, Jae'Mya Lyons, and Natalya Jones all having strong days. Turner says the second team stepped up big time.

The men battled for forty minutes, but fell short to the Cougars, 98-87.

Assistant coach Jake Odum says the team competed well against Barton.

Coffeyville struggled on the glass all afternoon, with Barton maintaining a lead with second chance shots. Jahni Summers and Brian Griffith each scored 18 points, with Jayven Cofer adding 15 and CJ Smith scoring 14.

Odum says the point guard duo of Griffith and Cofer continues to improve.

The Ravens have their final extended road trip of the regular season on Wednesday, traveling to Garden City to battle the Broncbusters.

Field Kindley splits in their final road game of the regular season at Chanute, with the Lady Nado winning 42-39 and the Nado boys falling 35-31,

Chanute had the lead or the game was tied for 31 of the 32 minutes of the girl's matchup before Taiylor Caron would hit the go-ahead layup with just under a minute remaining to secure the comeback win for Coffeyville. 

The Nado had a seven point lead going into the fourth quarter, but Chanute would outscore them 16-5 to come away with th four point win.

Coffeyville takes on Fort Scott at home on Tuesday with girl's game at 6:00pm and the boys to follow.

 The Caney Valley Bullpups traveled to Erie tonight to take on the Red Devils; the girls won 32-25, but the guys fell 61-53.

 Free throws in the 4th quarter were key for the Lady Bullpups victory. Anna Washburn led the Bullpups with nine points, while Sarah Martinez added eight in the win. 
 Kenzie Cleaver led Erie with eleven points. 
 In the men's matchup, Erie's Ethan Dillinger showed why he is considered one of the area's top performers. He scored 24 points and had 17 rebounds in the Red Devil win. Reid Duff added 14 points for Erie. 
 In a game that saw starting point guard Layne Denny not play due to injury, Colt Hightower followed up his record breaking performance with eleven points, all in the second half. Traxcyn Garton led the Pups with fourteen points, twelve in the second half. 
 The Bullpups pulled within six with just a few minutes to go in the game, but the Red Devils hit crucial free throws to secure the win. 
 Caney travels to Fredonia Tuesday for their final regular season game of the season. 

Coffeyville returns home after one of their best performances of the season, matching up with the nation's second-ranked team, the Barton Cougars.

Barton enters the game 24-1 on the season, winners of 15 straight games for the first time since 2000.

Head coach Jay Herkelman says it needs to be a complete team effort to beat the Cougars.

Barton has been battle tested all season, beating numerous ranked teams. Herkelman says the Cougars don't get rattled.

The Lady Ravens return to Nellis Hall after a bye, looking to secure a massive win over Barton.

Coffeyville currently sits fifth in the conference standings, with Barton in third place. Both teams are battling for the opportunity to host a playoff game in the Region VI Tournament.

Head coach Tony Turner says when matching up with a physical team like Barton, the team has to hold their own on the glass.

The Lady Ravens went on a hot streak at the end of the 2022-23 season, winning six of seven to go to the Region championship game. Turner says he thinks this year's group is close to catching fire.

Red Raven softball season has arrived, with the team earning a victory in their season opener.

Coffeyville was able to edge Northern Oklahoma-Enid down in Denison, Texas in a close 6-5 final. The team collected 12 hits, and scored in four of six innings at the plate.

One of the key players on this year's team is a Division 1 transfer pitcher, Addison Pakenham, who comes to Coffeyville from Colorado State. Assistant coach Mike Neal says she brings a veteran presence to the mound.

There are plenty of new faces on this year's team. Neal says there are numerous players who will make instant impacts.

The Kansas City Royals had their first organizaed team workout yesterday, after pitchers and catchers reported to Spring Training.

Manager Matt Quatraro begins his second season at the helm of KC, and looks for signs of improvement from this year's group. He says the team already has a strong culture around them.

With exhibition games a week away, many questions will be answered in days and weeks to come. Quatraro says this is always an exciting time of year.

Kansas City opens spring games against the defending champion Texas Rangers next Friday.

The Field Kindley boy's basketball team wins their third game in a row and seventh of their last eight with a 60-54 win over Parsons.

The Nado would hit five straight shots including three straight threes and a buzzer beater by Zay Logan to end the first quarter up 20-12. After shooting 6/10 in the first the Nado would go a little cold in the second only hitting 5/15. Parsons would cut into the lead only trailing by five at the half.

Coffeyville would extend their lead to eight in the third outscoring Parsons 16-13 in the quarter. Parsons would cut into the lead again in the fourth getting the game as close as two points. The Nado showed their resilience and had an answer for the Vikings every time they cut into their lead. Coffeyville would hit some clutch free throws down the stretch sealing their victory. Zay led the Nado with 16 and Jamarrion would add 14.

Coffeyville improves to 11-6 and will face 13-4 Chanute following the girl's game on Friday.

Field Kindley girl's basketball picks up their eighth win of the season, the most since the 2014-2015 season.

The Lady Nado jumped out to a lead early with five players scoring in the first quarter and Coffeyville leading 15-8. Senior Sydney Schibi would turn things up for the Lady Vikings in the second quarter but the Lady Nado would keep pace leading 30-22 at the break.

In the third quarter, Parsons would flip things from down eight to up six and outscoring Coffeyville 22-9. The Lady Nado would go on a 6-1 run to start the fourth and tie things up at 45 after a Taiylor Caron steal led to a transition layup from Erin Lopez. With, two minutes left in the game Kaylin Caron would hit a long two to give the Lady Nado the lead, 50-49, and they would hold on for the final of 57-50. FKHS outscored Parsons 18-6 in the fourth.

The Caron sisters combined for 26, Taiylor leading the team with 16 and Kaylin adding 10. Lopez would also score in double digits with 13. Schibi scored 28 for Parsons. 8-8 Coffeyville takes on 5-11 Chanute on Friday at 6:00pm for their final road game of the regular season.

A Caney Valley football player will continue his career close to home.

Senior Jackson Griffin has signed to play football at Coffeyville Community College, under the new coaching staff led by Nick Dobler.

Griffin ran for over 1,200 yards and 20 touchdowns in his senior season, as well as being a force on defense. He says he is thankful for his time in Caney.

Joining a football program with a documented history of success, Griffin will aim to carve out a role. He says he's ready to get to work.

Griffin will begin his time as a Red Raven athlete this summer.

Red Raven baseball will have their 2024 team tested, with a trio of mid-week conference matchups on the slate.

CCC will play a pair of games today against Butler and Dodge City, followed by a matchup with Cloud County tomorrow. All three games are in Edmond, Oklahoma.

The Raven pitching staff had impressive strikeout numbers in the opening week. Head coach Jake Martin says that's a promising sign.

With an opportunity to emerge as a conference championship contender, Martin says playing fundamental baseball will be crucial.

The Ravens also picked up some conference hardware this week, with pitcher Ryan Leiker named KJCCC Pitcher of the Week, and second baseman Carson Schrack name KJCCC Hitter of the Week.

 The Caney Valley Bullpups swept the Dewey Bulldoggers in Senior Night high school basketball action tonight; the men won 74-56, while the women won 51-43.

 A record was set in the men's game. Colt Hightower broke the school record for most points in a game by a Bullpup with 48, including eight 3 pointers, breaking the old record of 43. Layne Denny added nine in the win. Hightower scored 32 in the 1st half, including ten free throws. Sixteen of Hightower's points came from the charity stripe. 
 Jace Williams led the Bulldoggers with 15, while Kooper Crawford added 13.

 In the women's game, the low post play of Sarah Martinez and Kimberly Owens helped the Lady Bullpups keep a lead for most of the game. Martinez led all scorers with 19 and Owens added 10 in the victory, however, it was clutch free throws by Owens and Anna Washburn that sealed the win. The senior Washburn added 17 points for the Lady Bullpups.

 Chanley Herrera led the Lady Doggers with eleven. 
 The Bullpups will travel to Erie Friday to take on the Red Devils.

A Coffeyville Community College coach reached a major milestone over the weekend.

Head baseball coach Jake Martin collects his 200th career win in a victory over Southwestern CC on Saturday.

He says he's thankful for the players he's coached along the way.

Martin has been head coach of the Ravens since 2015, and has been with the program since 2012. In his time as coach, 16 players have moved on to play at Division 1, and nearly 100 players have moved to four-year universities.

The Red Ravens are 3-1 to start 2024 and will battle the Butler Grizzlies tomorrow afternoon.

The Cherryvale Chargers look for their biggest home win of the season, welcoming the Fredonia Yellow Jackets to town in the High School Basketball Game of the Week.

Fredonia is looking to maintain their positive momentum into the postseason. Head coach Dee Barnett says his team will need to execute against the Chargers.

Cherryvale has battle adversity all season with a new coach, injuries, and inexperience at the varsity level. Head coach Brett Gilchrist says he's been proud of his team's fight this season.

Baseball resumes this week, with the Kansas City Royals reporting to spring training in Arizona.

The Royals have made a number of offseason moves to improve both the lineup and pitching, and look to take a leap forward and compete for a division title and postseason berth.

Team broadcaster Rex Hudler says the team did a nice job of finding pitchers that fit the team identity.

The organization also recently signed Bobby Witt Jr to the largest contract in team history, locking up the star shortstop for more than a decade. Hudler says it's promising that a star player wants to be in KC long term.

Kansas City is expected to compete with the Twins, Guardians, and Tigers for the 2024 AL Central division championship.

The Kansas City Chiefs have once again reached the top of the football mountain.

Kansas City defeats the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22 in overtime, to win their fourth Super Bowl championship in team history. Voice of the Chiefs Mitch Holthus had the final call.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP for the third time in his career, throwing for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, and rushing for nearly 70 yards as well. He says the organization has always had a winning culture.

Tight end Travis Kelce finished with nine catches for 93 yards. Kelce says there's only one thing left to do after a third Super Bowl.

Kansas City opens with the second best odds to win Super Bowl LIX.

Following more than two weeks of frustration and ranked opponents, the Red Raven men are back in the win column.

The Ravens defeated the Seward County Saints, 90-79, to complete the season sweep. Coffeyville had lost five consecutive games before the win.

Sophomore Cris Carroll led the team with 23 points and nine rebounds. Jahni Summers had 22 points and 13 rebounds, and Brian Griffith contributed 19 points as well.

Freshman CJ Smith had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, his second double-double of the season. Head coach Jay Herkelman says he continues to grow as a player.

The Lady Ravens struggled to shoot, falling 62-44 against the Lady Saints. The Ravens are on their bye, and return to the court Saturday afternoon against Barton.

Coffeyville splits with Independence on Homecoming night as the Lady Nado fall 50-24 and the Nado boy's win 62-26.

It was a rough night offensively for the Lady Nado only hitting seven shots on the night and shooting 17%. Homecoming Candide Olivia Ransom led Coffeyville with seven points. Tionne Johnson had 13 and Cam Eytcheson had 11 for Independence.

The Nado boy's jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Bulldogs would attempt a second quarter comeback outscoring Coffeyville 13-11. The Nado would really pull ahead in the second half outscoring Indy 33-9. Zay Logan led Coffeyville with 14 and Jamarrion added 13. Both teams are back in action on Tuesday taking on Parsons at home with the girls tipping off at 6:00pm and the boys to follow.

Congrats to Ni'Shay Strickland and Bryan McDaniel on being named Homecoming Queen and King.

 The Caney Valley Bullpups traveled to Commerce to take on the Tigers in a high school basketball doubleheader, the guys defeated Commerce 66-48, while the girls fell 56-38.

 Colt Hightower led all scorers with 23 points, including five three pointers, while Payton Darden and Ben Matthews combined for 17 in the paint for the Pups. 
 The play in the paint was also a strong point for the Lady Bullpups. Kimberly Owens led Caney with 20 points and Sarah Martinez added seven, but it wasn't enough. 
 Commerce's Lacy Brough led all scorers with 27; 23 of those in the 1st half, and Commerce used a 20 point 3rd quarter to pull away from Caney and come away with a victory. 
 Up next for the Bullpups, a Tuesday doubleheader against Dewey. 

The Kansas City Chiefs are back on football's biggest stage, looking for their fourth Super Bowl championship in team history.

Kansas City matches up with the San Francisco 49ers, in a rematch of the Super Bowl from four years ago. Both teams have top-10 offenses and defenses in the NFL.

The Chiefs will be without two key defensive linemen in Derrick Nnadi and Charles Omenihu, both who are out with injury. The 49ers have a star dealing with injury as well, with wide receiver Deebo Samuel playing in the NFC Championship, but in a limited role.

A major key for Kansas City will be slowing down Christian McCaffrey, considered by many to be the best running back in the NFL. McCaffrey is not only an elite rusher, but also one of the league's best at catching the ball out of the backfield.

Additionally, San Francisco has elite edge rushers in Nick Bosa and Chase Young. Offensive tackles Jawaan Taylor and Donovan Smith will have to be effective in giving Patrick Mahomes time to throw.

The Ravens are on the road this weekend, traveling to Liberal for a matchup with the Seward County Saints.

The Lady Ravens are looking for their fourth consecutive win, battling their way back into the race for a first round bye in the region tournament. Head coach Tony Turner says Seward is much improved from the first semester.

The Raven bench has stepped up of late, with big performances from Ray Richardson, Natayla Jones, and Alexis Parker, among others. Turner says the team is completely bought in right now.

The men look to snap a slide, and sweep the season series with Seward. Freshman forward CJ Smith had his best week offensively, scoring double digit points against both Butler and NW Kansas Tech. Head coach Jay Herkelman says he's beginning to turn a corner.

The Sedan Blue Devils look for a senior night victory, hosting the Erie Red Devils in the High School Basketball Game of the Week.

The Blue Devils have had ups and downs this season, but are still postitioned well for the postseason with a record above .500.

Head coach Zac Hill says Erie is always a tough matchup.

The Red Devils are 12-3 on the season, with their only losses coming to Humboldt and Caney. Hill says his team will have to be ready to battle.

Baseball season has arrived in Coffeyville, with the Red Ravens getting their season started this weekend.

CCC will play four games against Southwestern CC in Pryor, Oklahoma, with two games tomorrow and two on Saturday. The games are considered home games for the Ravens, with Walter Johnson Park still undergoing field renovations this month.

Head coach Jake Martin says he's excited about the potential of the offense.

Sophomore pitchers Ricky Hernandez and Ryan Leiker return to lead the starting rotation. Martin says he thinks this year's team has more experience returning.

All Red Raven home games will be streamed on the Red Raven Sports Network, with live commentary for select games to be determined.

Offense was at peak performance for the Lady Ravens, scoring 107 points in a 107-61 victory over Northwest Kansas Tech.

Coffeyville shot 57% from the field and hit a season high 16 three-point shots. Head coach Tony Turner says he is happy with the team's execution on offense.

Sophomore Bailey Layman scored a career high 26 points, with eight made threes. Turner says Layman has the potential to be one of the best scorers in the league.

The Lady Ravens have now won three in a row, and sit just one game back of fourth place in the KJCCC. The top four teams all receive first round byes in the postseason.

CCC will be back in action against Seward County on Saturday.

The Red Ravens return home, looking for success against Northwest Kansas Tech tonight.

The Lady Ravens are coming off of their biggest win of the season, a road victory over a nationally ranked Butler team. Head coach Tony Turner says it's important to stay ready for this game as well.

The men are looking to find the win column, following a pair of losses to ranked teams in Cowley and Butler. Freshman guard Jayven Cofer had a career high 24 points in the first matchup with the Mavericks.

Head coach Jay Herkelman says he's relying on his point guards to have big nights.

 The Caney Valley Bullpups got off to a fast start and never looked back, as they defeated the Cherryvale Chargers in boys basketball action last night 73-16.

 The Bullpups had their most productive quarter of the season to start the game, outscoring Cherryvale 28-4 in the 1^st quarter. Cherryvale didn't score their first point until 1:29 left in the 1^st.

 Colt Hightower led all scorers with sixteen points in 2 ½ quarters, while Layne Denny added twelve for the Bullpups. Twelve players had points for the Bullpups.

 Landon Fox led the Chargers with seven points and Carsen Ellis added six.

 The Lady Chargers defeated the Lady Bullpups in the early matchup 54-41. Offensive rebounding proved to be the big difference in the game for the Chargers, who were able build and maintain an eight to ten point lead for most of the contest.

 Anna Washburn led the Bullpups with eighteen points; 14 of which came in the 2^nd half. Kimberly Owens added nine and Myra Denny had seven for the Lady Pups.

 Jailee Reister led the Lady Chargers and all scorers with sixteen points, while Bethany Umbarger added thirteen and Harmony John added eleven for Cherryvale.

 Caney Valley travels to Commerce Friday night to take on the Tigers in girls and boys action Friday night.

Coffeyville Community College will be searching for a new head volleyball coach.

Deardin Kelley has accepted the head coaching position at William Jewell College in Kansas City, a Division II program in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Kelley becomes one of the youngest coaches in all of D2, at just 26 years old. She says although she is young, she doesn't think about her age.

Originally not wanting to be a coach, values have shifted for Kelley since the conclusion of her playing career. She says her younger self would be shocked, but proud.

Kelley won 48 games in her two seasons at CCC. She says she is grateful for the memories in Coffeyville.

The Red Ravens will immediately begin searching for the next leader of the volleyball program.

For the second consecutive season, Kansas State survives the Jayhawks in overtime at Bramlage Coliseum.

Former Red Raven Tylor Perry had a game-high 26 points, including 21 in the second half and overtime.

KSU stormed back from an 11-point deficit in the second half, snapping a four game losing streak.

Perry says the team never stopped believing.

Kansas State improves to 15-8 on the season, and will travel to face BYU on Saturday. The Jayhawks fall to 18-5, and host Baylor on Saturday.

The Kansas City Royals conclude their active offseason with the biggest contract in franchise history.

Star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr has agreed to an 11-year extension worth nearly $289 million, that will keep the 23-year-old in KC for the next decade. It is the largest contract in franchise history, and the first deal that is more than 10 years in length.

There are four player opt-outs from 2030-33, as well as a three-year team option that could bring the total money to $377 milliion.

Witt had the first 30-30 season in team history last season, slugging 30 home runs and stealing 49 bases. He will become the face of the franchise for years to come, as the team looks to begin an era of competing.

The Lady Ravens pull off their biggest victory of the season, defeating a ranked Butler team 61-53.

Coffeyville took an early lead behind a great first quarter, and held off a Butler fourth quarter comeback bid.

Head coach Tony Turner says this is a win the team needed.

Bailey Layman led the team with 17 points, and eight different Ravens scored on the day. Turner says that kind of depth can win a championship.

The men couldn't hold an early lead with Butler rallying to win 73-57.

Despite shooting the ball well early, the Ravens struggled offensively in the second half. Jahni Summers led the team with 23 points.

The Ravens return to Nellis Hall on Wednesday night to battle the NW Kansas Tech Mavericks.

The Kansas City Royals report to spring training in just over a week, with elevated expectation in 2024.

The team has been one of the most active in baseball this season, adding established pitchers Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, Chris Stratton, and Will Smith, as well as hitters Adam Frazier, Hunter Refroe, and Garrett Hampson.

General Manager JJ Picollo says the organization set a goal early to improve the team.

The team also intends to build around young talent, recently agreeing to an extension with shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. Witt says he's excited to progress on an extension.

Kansas City reports to spring training next Wednesday, with their first exhibition games on February 23rd.

 The Caney Valley Bullpups split a doubleheader matchup in high school basketball tonight; the Lady Pups beat Humboldt 46-38, while the guys lost to the Cubs 67-47.

 Anna Washburn led all scorers with 27; 21 of those coming in the first half. Myra Denny added seven in the victory. 
 Caney led Humboldt 42-25 at the end of the third quarter, but a 13-0 run by the Lady Cubs pulled them within four before foul trouble and great ball handling gave the Lady Pups the win. 

 Kenisyn Hottenstein led Humboldt with fourteen points.

 
 In the guys matchup, Colden Cook led Humboldt with 23 points, while Sam Hull added 19, as the Cubs pulled away from the Bullpups. Humboldt led from buzzer to buzzer, as they were able to use their size to their advantage. 
 Colt Hightower led Caney with fifteen points. 
 Caney will take on the Cherryvale Chargers at home Tuesday night. 

The Red Ravens split a doubleheader with the Cowley Tigers at Nellis Hall.

The Lady Ravens scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to escape with a 47-39 victory. Karys Washington led the team with 12 points, Bailey Layman added nine and six rebounds, and Tetona Woods-Blackowl had eight, including the 3-point shot to give CCC the lead.

The men did not enjoy the same fortune, falling to Cowley 80-58. The Ravens got off to a much better start against the Tigers. Assistant coach Braeden Proctor says he thinks the team was better prepared.

Jahni Summers led the team with 21 points, and Cris Carroll added 15. The Ravens travel to Butler on Saturday. Proctor says it will come down to offensive execution.

With construction underway on David Booth Memorial Stadium, the Kansas Jayhawks now know where they will be playing home football games in 2024.

The Jayhawks will play all six home games in the Kansas City area, with the first two games at Children's Mercy Park, the home of MLS team Sporting Kansas City. The four conference home games will be played at Arrowhead Stadium.

Changes in venue allows for KU to provide a complete game day experience that would not be possible during the stadium renovations. Additionally, it keeps the Gateway District construction project on schedule, with a target to have KU play games in Lawrence in 2025.

University of Kansas commencement ceremonies for both 2024 and 2025 will still be held at David Booth Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.
