It was a dominant performance on Homecoming night at Caney Valley high school as the Bullpups rolled past Neodesha by a final score of 91-32. 

Caney Valley (8-5) is 7-2 over their last nine games while the Bluestreaks (2-10) have now lost 8 straight games. 

The Bullpups were led by their trio starters of Jace Kaminska, Trey Richie and Camdyn Melchiori who scored 17, 15 and 14 points respectively. 

Caney Valley also got a chance to play a lot of guys that are used to playing junior varsity. 

Bluestreaks were led scoring by Maddux Johnson who scored 10. 

The next game of the week on Tuesday will feature Neodesha at Fredonia with the game heard on 690 KGGF. 

The Kansas State men's basketball team picked up their 2nd Big 12 win of the season as they defeated Oklahoma on Wednesday night, 61-53. 

K-State (9-11, 2-5) led the majority of the game and had a 16 point lead with six minutes left but Oklahoma (13-7, 3-4) went on a run to pull within four before the Wildcats were able to hold off for the win. 

Mike McGuirl led the way for K-State scoring 16 points while OU was led in scoring by Alondes Williams with 15. OU head coach Lon Kruger drops to 0-8 vs. Bruce Weber in Manhattan. 

Up next for K-State, the Wildcats begin a tough two game stretch and it starts on Saturday as they travel to #12 West Virginia for a 1:00 start time before hosting #1 Baylor on Monday night. 

Both games can be heard on the Mighty 690 KGGF. 

The Field Kindley Girls Basketball team picks up their first win against rival Independence since 2014.  The Lady Nado get the 38-29 victory over the Bulldogs led by a dominant performance on the glass both with offense and defense rebounds.  Junior Post Addison Peck credits Head Coach Anita Walker in their tougher philosophy when it comes to getting rebounds.  Coffeyville and Indy Girls are now 1-1 on the season with the rubber match set for February 7th.  The Nado boys fall to Independence for the second time this season with a 54-29 loss.

Both Nado teams will have the rest of the week off with their next matchup against a Montgomery County foe as they head to Caney to take on the Bullpups on Monday.

Since a 1-2 start to the season, Cherryvale basketball has been on a tear ever since. 

On Tuesday night they ran their winning streak to nine after winning at home against Neodesha 82-41. 

The Chargers (10-2) got off to a slow start as they saw Neodesha (2-8) pick up an early 7-2 lead, but after that they took control of the ballgame and never looked back. 

They led 18-9 at the end of the first quarter and then led 46-18 at halftime. 

The Chargers posted three in double figures with Gavin Hooper, Landon Bennett and Zaine Lantz scoring 20, 14 and 12 points respectively. 

Neodesha was led in scoring by Josiah Talmadge who poured in 27 points despite the losing effort. 

The next game of the week on 690 AM will be on Friday night as Neodesha travels to Caney Valley. 

Coffeyville Community College men's basketball player Tony Hutson has earned Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week honors. In two matchups against Eastern Division rivals Independence and Neosho County, the sophomore guard picked up 28 and 22 points against the Pirates and Panthers.

Hutson shot 48% from the field and was instrumental in starting long runs that helped the Red Ravens get in front early and then continued his hot streaks to keep them there. Other players nominated included Desean Munson, Barton; Grehlon Eastern, Butler; Josh Baker, Hutchinson; Demetric Horton, Independence; Deonte Davis, Pratt.

The Kansas State men's basketball team battled but came up short at Alabama in the Big 12 / SEC Challenge on Saturday, losing 77-74. 

The Wildcats (8-11) used a 15-2 second half run after being down 16 to get back within one but the Crimson Tide posted back to back buckets and never looked back. 

K-State was led in scoring by Cartier Diarra with 17 points off the bench while Alabama (12-7) was led in scoring by Kira Lewis Jr. who posted 26 points. 

The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday night at home against Oklahoma. 
 

Coffeyville's women had a rare off night Saturday against Neosho County, losing 89-59 while the men found themselves picking up their fourth consecutive victory 80-69.

With a six game winning streak, the Coffeyville women seemed primed to pick up victory number seven against a Lady Panthers team that had up to that point gone 1-10 in the Jayhawk Conference. However, the Lady Ravens couldn't seem to buy a basket, while Neosho County shot the lights out of the building. The Lady Panthers sank 20 three-pointers over the course of the game, including 8 triples from Jessica Jones. Coffeyville trailed by only seven points at the half, but seemed to run out of energy at the end of the game, being outscored 35-9 in a total collapse. Head coach Tony Turner attributed the struggles to a poor shootaround, but was optimistic about his team's ability to rebound and recover for next week. Faith Simpson and Alana Kramer each led the team with 15 points a piece.

Compared to the women's game, the men's contest was a fairly subdued affair, with the Red Raven men taking the lead early and never really taking the foot off the gas. Efficient shot selection and a barrage of three-pointers from Tony Hutson helped keep Coffeyville's lead at a safe distance from the Panthers. Hutson and Manny Crump were the leading scorers for Coffeyville, picking up 21 points each. 

Following Saturday's games, the women fall to 19-4 on the season and 9-4 in the Jayhawk Conference. The men improve to 17-6 on the year and 9-4 in the conference. Both Coffeyville teams will take Wednesday off before getting back to action next Saturday against Butler Community College.

The Big 12 conference announced on Wednesday the suspensions of four players in the aftermath of the K-State and Kansas fight that occured after the Jayhawks' win over the Wildcats on Tuesday night. 

Each team had two players suspended due to the incident. 

KU's Silvio De Sousa was suspended 12 games while David McCormick was suspended for two games. 

K-State's James Love will miss eight games while Antonio Gordon will miss three games. Love's suspension will take effect once he is medically cleared to play. 

K-State and KU will play in Manhattan on Feb. 29th. 

The Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens men's and women's basktball teams defeated the Independence Community College Pirates at Nellis Hall on Wednesday night.

In the women's game, it was tight in the first half. But the Lady Ravens came out hot after the break, going on a 20-3 run in the third quarter. The Lady Ravens held their lead throughout the rest of the game defeating the Lady Pirates 79-60.

The men's game was also a great rivalry matchup with the game close and the lead going back and forth throughout the game.  However, in the last 3 minutes of the contest, the Red Raven men pulled away, finally winning by 8.  Final score in the men's game was 81-73.

The Kansas Jayhawks won Tuesday night's matchup against Kansas State 81-60, but a fight that erupted after the final whistle is what everyone will be talking about. With Kansas up 22 and dribbling out the clock, the Wildcats' DaJuan Jordan stripped the ball from Silvio De Sousa and headed down the court for a layup. De Sousa followed Jordan and blocked the shot, while sending Jordan to the floor. De Sousa received a technical foul for taunting.

Following the technical, K-State's Antonio Gordon and David Sloan went after De Sousa, sparking the brawl that involved players from both sides as well as the benches. At one point, De Sousa picked up a chair before having it grabbed away by an assistant coach. Security and coaches from both teams worked to pull the two teams apart.

Seemingly, with the game over due to the fight, both teams headed out to the locker room. However, the game's referees called both teams out to finish the game, which had a tenth of a second remaining. K-State shot their technical fouls, and the game was finally called over.

As of now, no suspensions or punishments have been announced for either side. KU head coach and athletic director Jeff Long said they would review the incident, with Self adding the incident was an embarrassment to the program. K-State head coach Bruce Weber said he didn't see the initial incident, as he was shaking hands with opposing coaches and players at the time.

The Kansas State Wildcats are coming off their first Big 12 win of the season with an 84-68 win over #12 West Virginia on Saturday. The win halted K-State's worst start in Big 12 play since 2015. 

K-State (8-9, 1-4) will try to carry that momentum into Lawrence on Tuesday night to battle #3 Kansas in the first 2020 installment of the Sunflower Showdown. 

The Jayhawks (14-3, 4-1) have won back to back games since a loss to now #1 Baylor in Lawrence. KU is one of the best defensive teams in Big 12 play while the Wildcats rank towards the bottom in the conference in field goal percentage. 

Tuesday night tip-off is at 6:00 PM with coverage starting at 5:00 PM on the Mighty 690 KGGF. 

For the first time in a long time, the Kansas City Chiefs will be playing for a chance at a Super Bowl. The Chiefs defeated the sixth-seeded Tennessee Titans 35-24 on Sunday to take their first AFC Championship and will be advancing to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years. 

Patrick Mahomes threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns, and also finished as the team's leading rusher with 53 yards on 8 carries and a touchdown. Sammy Watkins showed up big when it counted for Kansas City, recording seven catches and gathering 114 yards.

The Chiefs, once again, will be advancing to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years. The last Chiefs appearance in the big game was Super Bowl IV, where the team defeated the Minnesota Vikings for an NFL Championship.

Coffeyville basketball picked up another two wins against Allen County, as the men defeated the Red Devils 90-80 while the women accomplished the same task to the tune of 93-79 on Saturday.

With the Allen County women on a seven-game losing streak, some might've thought that this game would be over quickly. Although the Red Raven women would lead for the entire contest, they did so while having to repeatedly fend off a fired-up Red Devils squad. Coffeyville would push their lead to double-digits three seperate times before seeing the lead evaporate down to just 3 or 4 points once again. However, as the team has accomplished several times this season, the Lady Ravens would find a final push in the closing minutes to finally put the game out of reach and eventually take home the 14-point victory. Faith Simpson led all scorers with a season-high 31 points, and was joined in double-digit territory by Alana Kramer (17), Ania Markowska (17), and McKenzie Murrel-Patton (11). 

The men's game saw the second straight absence of head coach Jay Herkelman, who was out with the flu. With assistant coach Kyle Campbell once again at the helm, the men took a narrow two-point lead into halftime and would never look back. The Red Raven men would have a brief hiccup similar to the women, with Allen getting back to within two points at 73-71, but performances by Larry White (17 points) and Kymani Dunham (16) would reignite the Coffeyville offense and spark a 17-9 run to end the game. White led the team in scoring, while five other Red Ravens scored in double-digits, including Dunham, Tony Hutson (14), Meikkel Murray (12), Tylor Perry (11), and Manny Crump (10).

With the victories, the men improve to 15-6 (7-4) on the season while the women now sit at 18-3 (8-3) for the year. The Red Ravens will be in action once again next Wednesday as they welcome Independence to Nellis Hall. That game will be broadcast on US98.1, with pregame starting for the women's game at around 5:20.

It was a wild ball game on Friday night at Sedan where the Blue Devils had to hold off Oswego in the fourth quarter, winning 48-40. 

The game was played well on both sides defensively and a lot of free throws down the stretch allowed Sedan (5-4) to hold off the Indians who are still in search of their first win of the season. 

The game combined for 47 fouls and 48 combined free throw attempts. Sedan went 12 of 23 at the line while Oswego connected on 13 of 25 at the free throw line. 

Sedan's lone player in double figures was Junior Kaden Walker who finished with 21 points. Junior Isaac Elliott piled up a monster night for Oswego despite the loss, finishing with 19 points and 17 rebounds. The Indians outrebounded Sedan 43-22. 

The next scheduled high school game of the week on 690 KGGF is scheduled for Jan. 28th with Neodesha at Cherryvale. 

The Nado girls come away with their first leave on the road since the 2014-2015 season as they beat Pittsburg 34-30. It was a game the Coffeyville controlled from the start they jumped out to a 9-1 lead early in the first and were able to force the Dragon to make mistakes and take bad shots. The Nado girls will head on the road for a midseason tournament in Jay, OK starting Thursday. 

The Nado boys coming off a win against LCHS got what might arguably be seen as Pittsburg’s best game all season and FKHS would fall 87-64. The Nado boys head on the road for their midseason tournament at Valley Center, KS starting on Thursday.

The Coffeyville women's basketball team picked up their fourth straight victory 73-56, while the men got back into the win column 87-63 against Cloud County on Wednesday night.

Coming off just one day of rest, the Coffeyville women came out slowly and traded buckets with a Thunderbirds squad that had lost three straight prior to the matchup. However, Coffeyville would use a small run near the end of the second quarter to head into halftime with a 39-31 lead. The third quarter would be the deciding moment in the game, with Coffeyville scoring 12 unanswered points to begin the second half to push the lead out to 20. From that point on, although things would be relatively even for the rest of the game, Cloud County would never threaten the lead again. Ania Markowska picked up her second straight double-double, with 11 points and 14 rebounds. McKenzie Murrel-Patton (11), Julia Calafell (11), and Alana Kramer (10) would join Markowska with double-digit performances.

The men's affair was awfully similar to the women's game in terms of Coffeyville starting out slow. The Red Ravens played without the guidance of head coach Jay Herkelman, who was suspended due to his ejection against Cowley on Monday. With assistant coach Kyle Campbell at the helm, Coffeyville would need a bit to get going, but a late first-half run gave Coffeyville its first double-digit lead of the game just before halftime at 37-27. That would be as close as Cloud County would get for the rest of the contest, as Coffeyville would show a much improved defense and great shot selection. The Red Ravens shot 61 percent from the field in the second half, and waltzed to an eventual 24-point victory. Manny Crump led the team in scoring with 25 points on 10-13 shooting. He was joined by the usual suspects of Tony Hutson (15) and Meikkel Murray (12).

The Coffeyville men and women will have one more game each this week, coming up this Saturday against Allen County. That game will be broadcast on US98.1 KUSN, with tip-off for the women at 2 p.m. Pregame will start 10 minutes prior to the start of the first game.

Another game, another loss for Kansas State as the Wildcats are held off by #23 Texas Tech in Manhattan 77-63. 

The Wildcats (7-9, 0-4) battled throughout and took an early lead in the second half but it wasn't enough as the Red Raiders (11-5, 2-2) used a balanced attack to dispatch K-State. 

Cartier Diarra led the Wildcats with 19 points while Xavier Sneed added 14 points. 

The Red Raiders were led in scoring by Kyler Edwards who poured in a career high 24 points. 

Up next, K-State will host #12 West Virginia on Saturday with the tip-off scheduled for 1:00 in Manhattan. 

The sixth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 66-52 on Tuesday night after blowing the game open in the second half. Three Jayhawks recorded scoring totals in the double digits, including Isaiah Moss, who turned in the highest point total of the night at 20. Udoka Azubuike (16) and Marcus Garrett (15) also reached double digits for Kansas, with Azubuike also recording 14 rebounds for a double-double. Devon Harmon and Kristian Doolittle both led the Sooners with 13 points each.

The Jayhawks improve to 13-3 this season and 3-1 in the Big 12 Conference. They'll continue their most recent road stretch on Saturday when they'll travel to Texas for a matchup against the Longhorns. You can hear that game on 104.1, Greatest Hits.

The Field Kindley Girls faced a tough test in Labette County who was just a little too much to handle as the Grizzlies won 61-30. The Nado boys needed overtime to beat LCHS 48-45.  FKHS boys pick up their first league of the season and second win overall. Coach Tyler Thompson says it’s always good to comeback to the place where he played high school basketball and come away with a win. 

Nado head on the road to face Pittsburg on Friday.

Caney Valley dominated Erie from the opening jump picking up a big win on Tuesday night 72-52. 

The Bullpups (5-3) earn their fourth win in a row after a 1-3 start to the season. Senior Camdyn Melchiori led the way with 24 points and six rebounds. Caney Valley also got big games from Senior's Jace Kaminska and Trey Richie who added 19 and 18 points respectively. 

Erie (4-2) was led in scoring by Junior Mark Bogner with 21 points and five rebounds as the Red Devils pick up their second straight loss after a 4-0 start to the season. 

The next high school game of the week broadcast will be on Friday night when Oswego travels to Sedan. 

The Coffeyville women continued its string of dominance on Monday with a 73-60 win over Cowley County, while the men fell to the Tigers 113-97.

The women's contest saw the two teams trade blows back and forth early, with the Red Ravens and Tigers tied after one quarter. A big run at the start of the second quarter would see Coffeyville pull away a bit, although Cowley found a couple of buckets before the half to cut the lead down to just 8 point going into the locker rooms. Coffeyville would build a lead at the outset of the second half, at one point leading by 12 at 41-29, but Cowley would start to make a big run to tie the game up at 45. That would be the tipping point, though, as Coffeyville would calm down and start playing effective basketball once again, putting the lead into double digits and never looking back. Julia Calafell led the team in scoring off the bench, scoring 18 points and making plenty of free throws near the end of the game to help keep the lead steady. McKenzie Murrel-Patton (16) and Faith Simpson (12) picked up double-digit scoring nights for the Red Ravens. Simpson and Ania Markowska gathered 13 and 16 rebounds, respectively, although Markowska left the game in the second half with an injury. Tynica Gilmore also left the contest in the second half after hurting her shoulder.

The men's contest saw two teams fired up and ready to go at one another, and it showed on the box score. The two teams combined for numerous fouls, and several technical fouls were assessed throughout the game. Coffeyville head coach Jay Herkleman was ejected after getting his second technical midway through the second half. As for the game itself, Coffeyville struggled heavily to keep up with the chaotic style of play that Cowley has practiced all season. Mental mistakes and costly turnovers dug the Red Ravens a deep hole, where the team at one point trailed by as much as 23 points. Coffeyville would start to make a climb back into the game during the second half, getting back to within five, but a string of three-pointers from the Tigers would once again put the game out of reach, this time for good. Tony Hutson looked great even in defeat, picking up a season-high 33 points and shooting a remarkable 15-17 from the free throw line. Larry White (18), Meikkel Murray (16), and Tylor Perry (12) all reached double digits for Coffeyville.

The Coffeyville men (13-6, 5-4) and women (16-3, 6-3) have two more contests this week, including a home matchup against Cloud County on Wednesday and a road matchup against Allen County on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast, as they always are, on US 98.1, KUSN.

The Kansas City Chiefs completed one of the largest comebacks in NFL playoffs history to defeat the Houston Texans 51-31 and advance to the AFC Championship next Sunday. 

Kansas City was down 24-0 early in the second quarter before scoring 41 consecutive points, including 24 points in the final 10 minutes before the half. The comeback was the fourth-largest in playoffs history and became the first time to ever win a playoff game by 20 or more after trailing by 20 or more. The Chiefs also broke the record for most consecutive touchdown drives in NFL playoff history with seven straight. Patrick Mahomes finished the day with 321 yards on 23-35 passing and five touchdowns. Four of those touchdowns came in the second quarter, and three of those touchdowns were thrown to tight end Travis Kelce.

For the second straight season, Kansas City will play in the AFC Championship game. This season, their adversary will be the sixth-seeded Tennessee Titans, who defeated New England in the Wild Card round and then first-seed Baltimore in the divisional round. The Titans and Chiefs will kick off next Sunday at 2:05 p.m, with the game being broadcast on the Might 690, KGGF.

Free throws would be the difference in the matchup between the Lady Nado and Lady Tigers.  Coffeyville trailing by three with 11 seconds left was able to get back to back steals to tie the game, but a foul as time expired would send Ella Beth from Fort Scott to the free throw line.  Beth would make both free throws and Fort Scott got the win 39-37.  FKHS left a lot of points on the court going 10-24 from the free throw line they also turned the ball over 17 times.  Despite the loss first year Head Coach Anita Walker is always able to find the positive in the games she says you have to look at the small victories.

While the Lady Nado matchup was a back and forth afair the matchup between the boys teams was a little different.  With just over four minutes left in the second Coffeyville was leading 16-11 and Fort Scott would go on a 23-0 run that stretched from the four minute mark of the second quarter to the four minute mark of the third quarter.  The Nado was finally able to stop the run with just under four to play in the third and then would slowly chip away at the lead but still fallin to the Tigers 47-42.

The Nado are back on the road Tuesday as they head to Pittsburg to take on the Dragons.

After a slow start to the first quarter at Neodesha, Cherryvale was able to open things up in the second quarter and blow away the Bluestreaks on Friday night, 75-34. 

The Chargers (5-2, 2-0) led 12-7 after the first quarter but was able to outscore Neodesha (2-4, 1-3) 24-12 in the second quarter to take a 36-19 lead at halftime. 

The third quarter was a monster one for the Chargers as they outscored the Bluestreaks 31-4 and completely took control the rest of the way. 

The Chargers were led in scoring by senior Zaine Lantz with 22 points and five rebounds while senior Gavin Hooper piled up a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Kolbyn Hooper also finished in double figures with 11 points. 

Cherryvale outrebounded Neodesha 40-17 and forced the Bluestreaks into 22 turnovers. 

Neodesha was led in scoring by sophomore Maddux Johnson with 15 points. 

The next scheduled game of the week on 690 KGGF will be on Tuesday night as Erie travels to Caney Valley. 

Former Coffeyville Community College Red Raven added to football staff. Red Ravens Coach Jeff Leiker announced via Facebook and Twitter that former Defensive Back Larry Asante has been added to the staff as the defensive backs coach.

Asante has quite the resume having played six years in the NFL for the Buccaneers, Colts and Raiders, he was an NJCAA All-American in 2009 and First Team All-Big 12 for Nebraska in 2009. Asante said via Twitter that he wants to thank Coach Leiker for believing in him and he is happy to be headed back home.

#3 Kansas had no problem with Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum on Wednesday night, winning 79-53. 

KU (12-2, 2-0) closed the first half on a 21-3 run to take a 20 point lead into the halftime break. Devon Dotson led the Jayhawks with 20 points, six assists and five rebounds. Ochai Agbaji added 16 points on 4 of 5 shooting from three point range. As a team, KU hit 10 of 19 from beyond the arc. 

The Jayhawks held Iowa State (7-7, 0-2) to just 34% shooting in the game. 

The Jayhawks lost by 17 at Iowa State last season including losing three of their last five meetings in Ames.

The Coffeyville Red Ravens made a big statement on Wednesday, with both the men and women taking home dominating victories over Colby Community College.

With Coffeyville ahead at the half by just three points before the half at 33-30, it seemed as if the women's contest would come down to the wire. However, the Red Ravens had other plans. Stout defense and a string of three-pointers blew the game wide open, as McKenzie Murrel-Patton, Kailyn Lay and Brooklyn Wade all hit big shots during a massive run to take a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Trojans (11-3, 2-3) were held to just 2 points total. Coffeyville would go on a 19-2 run to end the contest at 74-44. The Red Raven women improve to 14-3 on the season and 4-3 in the Jayhawk Conference. Faith Simpson led the way once again with 18 points, but Murrel-Patton added 17 of her own in one of her best performances on the year. Coffeyville shot 52 percent from beyond the arc and held Colby to just 28 percent shooting from the field.

The men's game followed a similar pattern, although the Red Ravens were able to extend their lead to double digits before halftime. The Trojans (11-3, 3-2) would storm out of the gate in the second half and would get within 1 point, but much like the women before them, Coffeyville used a big stretch of great defense and excellent shot selection to get on a 16-2 run and get back to a double-digit lead. From there, it was smooth sailing as the Colby men would never threaten the lead again en route to a 73-54 Coffeyville victory. Tony Hutson was the star of the show, hitting five three-pointers and finishing with 24 points on the night on 8-13 shooting. He was joined in double digits by Tylor Perry (15) and Larry White (13). The men improve to 12-5 on the season and are also 4-3 in Jayhawk Conference play. 

Coffeyville will be busy over the weekend and early next week, traveling to Dodge City on Saturday and then Cowley County on Monday. As always, both of those contests will be broadcast on US 98.1, KUSN.

The frustrating season for K-State men's basketball continued on Tuesday night as the Wildcats lost to TCU 59-57 in Manhattan. 

TCU's Kevin Samuel tipped in a missed shot with two seconds left to lift the Horned Frogs over Kansas State. 

Prior to that play, Kansas State tied the game with a three point shot by David Sloan with 13 seconds left. 

K-State (7-7, 0-2) was led in scoring by Xavier Sneed with 19 points on 5 of 14 shooting from the field. TCU (11-3, 2-0) posted four players in double figures including Samuel who had 10 points to go along with 15 rebounds. 

The Wildcats will play at Texas on Saturday night with the tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM. 

Caney Valley Senior Camdyn Melchiori set the single game scoring record by pouring in 45 points in the Bullpups' 74-47 win over Sedan on Tuesday night. 

Melchiori had 16 in the first quarter, 27 at halftime and 37 after three quarters before getting pulled midway thru the fourth quarter with 45 as his team led big for a majority of the game. 

Caney Valley opened the game up 15-2 but Sedan clawed back early into the second quarter as the deficit was cut to eight points before their leading scorer, Dameion Hatten, had to leave the game with three fouls. 

Caney Valley took advantage with Hatten on the bench as they blew open the game to lead by 17 at halftime and was able to push it out the rest of the way. 

Outside of Melchiori with his school record 45 points, Trey Richey added 12 for Caney Valley. Hatten led the way for the Blue Devils finishing with 18 points. 

Both teams are 3-3 and the next game of the week broadcast on 690 KGGF will be on Friday with Cherryvale at Neodesha. 

Not the start to the new year you want to see if your Nado fans as both teams fall to Chanute in their first matchups of 2020. FKHS girls fall 63-50 and the Nado boys fall 69-49. Both teams now sit at 1-5 and the Coffeyville boys are still looking for their first league win. 

Nado head on the road to take on Fort Scott on Friday and it’s the start of a long road trip as their next home game isn’t until February 14th.

Wildcard weekend in the NFL is complete and now the playoffs continue with the divisional rounds set for this upcoming weekend. 

The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon with the kick-off set for 2:05 at Arrowhead Stadium. The Texans won the regular season meeting back in week six in Kansas City, 31-24. KC was without multiple starters in that game while QB Patrick Mahomes was dealing with an ankle injury. 

All the action between the Chiefs and Texans can be heard on Sunday afternoon on the Mighty 690 KGGF. 

The rest of the divisional round is set with the other AFC match-up between the Titans and Ravens in Baltimore. The NFC match-ups feature the Vikings at 49ers and Seattle at Green Bay. 

The Kansas Jayhawks opened up Big 12 Conference play with a 60-53 victory over #16 West Virginia at Allen Fieldhouse. Despite shooting just 21 percent from beyond the three-point line, KU's defense forced the Mountaineers offense to struggle just as much. Udoka Azubuike recorded a double-double, picking up a game-high 17 points and recording 11 rebounds. Other Jayhawks in double-figures included Devon Dotson (16) and Marcus Garrett (12).

For the Jayhawks, this marks their 29th consecutive victory in Big 12 openers. Kansas will hit the road this week as they head to Ames for a matchup against Iowa State. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and can be heard on 104.1 KGGF-FM.

Coffeyville split its first basketball double-header in 2020, with the men defeating Seward County 65-63 and the women falling 66-62.

The women's game started off the day, and while the Red Ravens held a lead for much of the first half, the Saints kept themselves in the contest with plenty of three-point shooting. Coffeyville would lead by 2 at the half, but a disasterous third-quarter would see Seward County jump out to a lead as large as 17 points. Coach Tony Turner and the rest of the team would find their footing in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late, as a last second comeback attempt was thwarted by an errant pass and a couple of missed plays.

The men's game was an emotional affair, with tensions rising throughout the game and at one point involving a brief argument between Red Ravens head coach Jay Herkelman and Saints head coach Jason Sautter. Coffeyville would carry a 9-point lead into the locker room, and stormed out to a big lead early in the second half with some excellent defensive play. However, Seward County would edge their way closer and closer until eventually getting back to within 1 point with a few minutes left.. Coffeyville would extend to lead to 2 after Larry White split a couple of free throws, and with 6.7 second left, the Red Ravens would get the stop they needed to secure the victory.

Tony Hutson would lead the way for the Coffeyville men, scoring 14 points, all of which came in the first half. Faith Simpson again led all Coffeyville women in scoring with 13. Coffeyville will stay at home next Wednesday, playing host to Colby. The women will tip off at 5:30, with the men to follow. Pregame will start 10 minutes prior to opening tip on US98.

Kansas City Chiefs Safety Tyrann Mathieu has earned AFC Defensive Player of the Month Honors following a stretch in December where the Chiefs posted a perfect 5-0 month with wins over the Raiders, Patriots, Broncos, Bears and Chargers. 

Mathieu had 24 tackles, one sack, five pass break-ups and one interception. 

The Chiefs earned the 2-seed in the AFC playoffs and have a bye week before playing at Arrowhead Stadium on January 12th. If the Patriots beat the Titans than it will be New England traveling to KC for the divisional round. If the Titans win at New England, than the Chiefs will host the winner of Buffalo and Houston. 

The Big 12 struggled this bowl season, dropping 5 of its 6 games. The only winner of its bowl was Texas, who scored an upset over #11 Utah 38-10 in the Alamo Bowl. Even the Big 12's College Football Playoff representative, Oklahoma, saw its national championship hopes dashed by LSU 63-28. 

Close to home, Chris Kleiman and Kansas State could not hold off #23 Navy, falling 20-17 in the Liberty Bowl. Kansas finished 3-9 and did not qualify for a bowl under first-year head coach Les Miles.
