Fort Scott would add two more touchdowns in the second half pulling away 22-0. Axel Erne would connect with KeShawn Hayes for a 12-yard score to prevent the shutout. Aaron Tunstall ran five times for 53 yards but exited the game during the first drive and didn't return. A win would put the Blue Devils at 3-2 in district play and potentially move them up to the three spot in the district playoff bracket.

West Elk Head Coach Chris Haag says the Raiders want nothing more than to spoil the night.

Head Coach Jay Herkelman enters his 30th season as the head coach of the Ravens. He says the title contenders in this league are legit.

Although Hutchinson, Coffeyville, and Barton are regulars at the top of the league, there are other teams in the chase for a championship. Herkelman says there have been a few other schools that have caught his eye.

With the combination of talent across the thirteen conference schools. and the distance traveled to road games, the KJCCC is one of the most difficult leagues in junior college. Herkelman says you have to be ready to play every night.

Coffeyville opens the season on the road against #17 Moberly Area on November 1st at 7 p.m.

Lady Ravens Projected 6th in Preseason Polls

Defending national champion Hutchinson is the favorite to win the conference, with Dodge City in second, Barton third, Garden City in fourth, and Butler rounding out the Top 5.

Turner says the key to competing with the other contenders is having the sophomores step up.

Coffeyville has earned wins over each of the Top 5 teams in the past two seasons. Turner says the team needs to minimize off court distractions to keep pace.

CCC opens the season at home against Connors State College on November 1st at 7 p.m.

Caney Ground Game Dominant in Victory Over Bulldogs

The Caney Valley Bullpups traveled to Galena in a battle of the Dogs and came away with a 46-12 victory.

Once again, both the offensive and defensive lines played well, with the defense only giving up three yards rushing in the first half.

Galena falls to 3-4 on the season. Their last regular season game will be at home against Baxter Springs.

Caney improves to 5-2 on the season. They will take on Riverton at home Friday night.

400 Yards Rushing Not Enough as Nado Fall to Mulvane

The Mulvane offense just too much for the Nado to overcome as they fall 44-28.

Coffeyville would get things started on their first drive as Trenton Akins would take it 42 yards for the first score of the game.  Josh Shobe added the two point conversion to make it an 8-0 lead.  Mulvane would answer right back with a 30 yard run by Fisher Dye.  Both teams would fail to score on their second drive but both find the endzone in one play on drive number three.  Aaron Tunstall on a 67 yard touchdown and Manny Myers answered with a 73 yard run.  The Wildcats would add one more to take a 22-16 lead into halftime.

The Nado would tie things up on a 53 yard touchdown run by Tunstall.  After the tie Mulvane would pull away on the legs of Myers, who ended with 223 yards and three touchdowns.  The Nado ran for 401 yards on 42 carries.  Tunstall had 219 and Akins added 137 and both scored two touchdowns.

Coffeyville ends the regular season with Fort Scott next week at home.

The Wildcats are in the thick of conference title contention, sitting one game back of BYU, Iowa State, and Texas Tech. West Virginia is 3-3 on the season, with a 2-1 record in conference play.

KSU Head Coach Chris Klieman says the Mountaineers have an elite rushing attack.

A major reason for the success of the Wildcat offense has been junior running back D.J. Giddens, who is averaging over seven yards per carry and is 5th in the nation in rushing yards. Klieman says his work ethic matches his talent on the field.

Coverage of the Wildcats and Mountaineers begins tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 with kickoff at 6:30 on the Mighty 690, KGGF.

The Battle of the Dogs Happens Tonight in Galena

Head Coach Nick Dobler says it will need to be a complete team effort to win this one.

Jalon Daniels has had struggles in his return from injury, and the team as a whole has battled inconsistencies for most of the year.

Leipold says there are a few details the team will need to iron out moving forward.

Kansas City will be considered among the contenders in the AL Central Division, and will compete with Cleveland and Detroit for the top spot in the division.

General Manager J.J. Picolo says the team will continue to be agressive in pursuing players.

The expectations have been elevated for the boys in blue, with the playoffs a key goal for the 2025 group. First baseman Vinnie Pasquantino says he hopes this heartbreak can motivate the team moving forward.

Every player on the Raven roster will get playing time this weekend, but Herkelman says there are a few to keep an eye out for if you are a fan.

Teams are still searching for their identity at this stage of the season. Herkelman says there's lots of work to do, but he's happy with what he sees.

The Ravens will be in action at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday in Nellis West. There will be games at 10, 11:30, 1, and 2:30 in each of the two gyms. Admission to the Jamboree is $5.

CCC Spirit Squad Cheering Ravens to Success

While plenty of fans in the stands have been cheering on their Red Ravens this season, the Red Raven Spirit Squad has been making sure the athletes and coaches feel the love on the sidelines.

Coffeyville native and CCC alum Kenzie Horner is in her first season leading the Spirit Squad, after serving on an interim basis two years ago. She says that experience prepared her for the role she has now.

Being a first time head coach can be overwhelming at times, especially when navigating the fall sports season of a college athletics department. Horner says she has received support from other coaches and staff on campus.

The Spirit Squad performs at all home football and basketball games, along with other select performances throughout the season. Horner says there will also be a performance during next week's Raven Madness.

Horner's Spirit Squad can also be seen in action on Saturday afternoon during the Hutchinson football game, which begins at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Changes Coming to KSHSAA Playoff Seeding

Postseason changes are coming to high school football in the state of Kansas.

The seeding will be done differently for Classes 3A, 2A, and 1A moving forward. The new format will match the method that is used in 6A, 5A, and 4A.

District champions will be seeded No. 1-4 based on record and head to head tiebreakers. District runner-ups will be seeding No. 5-8 based on the same criteria.

The same method will be used to seed 3rd place and 4th place teams No. 9-16 to complete the state tournament bracket.

The seeding format ensures different annual matchups each year in the state playoffs, avoiding repetiive district matchups every season. It also allows flexibility for a district with multiple state title contenders to have numerous teams go deep in the playoffs.

The 2024 high school football playoffs begin on November 1st, with state championships taking place on November 29th and 30th.
